How to spot favourite distances

Post by Flizan Hambletonian »

Hi!

Is there a method to figure out the steeplechaser's favourite distances? Have tried to look at dam and sire, but it´s difficult to see any pattern. Is there a way to test out if the horse prefers short or long distances?

Still trying to figure this game out... ;)

That's my one major gripe about steeplechasers, it's all one big shot in the dark. I usually just ran them until I found the distance they were most successful at.
Superbia --> SC Winning Stud from the My Heart of Hearts dynasty --> 40,000 fee
Quetzalcoatl --> G1 winner, Son of SC winner Luxuria, 20,000 fee
Filled With Pride --> G1 winner, Son of SC winner Superbia, 20,000 fee

For example (have many more... :/ )

This horse is a chase stakes. He has ran well at both 2 miles and 4?
I usually put my horses in races late with less participants and not looking for distance. But now when I start racing the horses in stakes, I want to know what I´m doing... ;)

Thanks for input! :)

That one won a maiden with a low SF compared to a Stakes with a high SF.
