Freak Standardbred Trotter

Post by Randell Johnson »

It's been a while since I have raced any Standardbred Trotters (or any Harness/Mixers), and I am wondering how rare (or common) a freak is?

(Photobomber x Cat Ballou)
She's a well-bred freak late bloomer, but I am just wondering what her future might look like in this division.

Just Wondering,
Have a Great Day,
Randy

Congrats Randell!
Y64 started with 2507 yearlings in total - 1247 of which are fillies.
As far as her gallop rating goes your filly should be in the top <2% of all yearlings. Gallop rating doesn't always equate to racing ability but she's a keeper with her pedigree. I'd be a willing buyer ;) . Best of luck. Tom.

All the breedings I did this year across all breeds I got 3 freaks. All trotters. My pacers were a complete disaster. :-(

I'll go further than Tom. I agree that Freak = top 2% - there are only a handful of stallions who have retired since the gallop changes three years ago who have thrown freaks, some of whom I consider among the elite stallions, and they've thrown around 2% freaks. Stallions who have older offspring will have inflated freak numbers. BUT, with her pedigree and the fact that she's a late bloomer, I'd have her closer to the top 0.2% (ie. top 5 yearlings rather than top 50) and would be massively excited about her if I owned her.

PS: INSURE HER RIGHT NOW!!!

I was the opposite; my trotters were a complete disaster. And that's even with half of them being by my stallion State of Euphoria, who is one of those young stallions I rate as highly as any in the division. And I got zero freaks (though some of my stallions got some for other people, so that's nice).

Thank you all for your reply's. As I said, it had been a while, so I was unsure who she would stack up against the rest.

And I took your advice Michael, and I insured her.

Thanks!
