Gallops?

Post by Tim Matthews »

Well, my expectations were certainly met, as I was thoroughly underwhelmed (but I'm not upset about it :) )

Out of 70 gallops, I had 2 stakes - from Editors and Liam. A bunch of allowances. How did you do?

just getting started but so far I have two homebred stakes turf sprinters. WOOOOT! (reckoner, reach for the moon)
and a homebred stakes aw router... (benjamin)
two homebred stakes dirt routers... (mirror images, vanquish)
a homebred stakes arabian router (Whaaat?)
ten stakes dirt sprinters, about the same as last year, and enough allowances to keep the year interesting (28% allowance or better in dirt sprinters). That's my main TB flat race business, but no freaks this year.
- khivan, ouji (x2), promises and lies, black hennessey (x2), look like a king, look bullets, vilify, delorean

so far, pretty pleased. Wish I had the cash to insure some of these...

I went overboard with breeding so I really really wanted to cull about half my yearlings. About half turned out to be claimers so I'm absolutely chuffed that I can just throw them in an auction and be back at comfortable numbers :D

Plus I bred another freak. He's called Captain My Captain and he is named in honour of Captain Clayton. Captain is my best buddy and we've won 5 races together and only been out of the prize money twice in something like 12 starts.

I think after getting no TBs better than allowance, its probably time i retired all those mares to pasture. My luck is with my mixers even if i have a really good bunch of nice mares. Just no good slides with them lol

Super happy with my gallops. Mixers didn't treat me as well this year as last. But the TBs made up for it big time.

Overall my gallop comment numbers are up significantly from years past. I don't have freaks (AW, duh) but very happy to have at least 2 stakes (and I usually have several improve from 2 to 3, so still happy I'll get a few more from this crop). Overall percentages:

Stakes - 2 (1%)
Allowance - 23 (12%)
Productive - 27 (14%)
Solid - 29 (15%)
Claimer - 81 (43%)
Different Career - 26 (14%)
