Just a question. I have a mare I want to breed and I have the opportunity to breed her to her grandfather on her mothers side.. Good or bad. I havnt done it yet but just curious and yes it does let you breed them.

If I understand you correctly your talking about a 1x3 cross to some stallion. In general.. I would never suggest going 1 x anything.

An example from "real life": Like Granny is in-bred to Needles 1x3.
See <a href='http://www.pedigreequery.com/like+granny' target='_blank'>http://www.pedigreequery.com/like+granny</a>

Needles won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1956.

Despite the Needles influence, Like Granny's record was mediocre --

I think Sarah agrees with Brianna. I know I do! Thats too much inbreeding to be comfortable with.

In general, if you have to go all the way back to the days of Needles to find an example of the cross in real life, and the horse was only mediocre then, its not something you want to do too much of! I know it has been done succesfully in the SIM before, but I really wouldn't recommend it.

I have a mare (Tag) who is 1x4 to Jewel Princess and was no great shakes as a racer. I then bred the mare to Trailblazer, a grandson of Jewel Princess. The filly, Ticket, won at first asking.

I am not in any way condoning this practice, however. I honestly had forgotten that Jet was descended from Jewel Princess when I bred him to her. The Trailblazer x Tag inbreeding to Jewel Princess was intentional, because I like 2x3 inbreeding. 2x3 is the closest I'll do (well, I'll also do 2x3x4x5 or something, but certainly not 1x3).

I was debating sending Chute to End of the Line though. :)

As I try to point out, I don't inbreed my horses because I think it makes them better than if I sent the mares to outcrossed stallions; I inbreed my horses because it entertains me. I also only inbreed back into my own well-established lines. I'd never do really close inbreeding with lines I didn't have generations of experience with because you never know how unfamiliar lines will react.

Edit: I just noticed that not only am I discussing closely inbred horses here but I also have an avatar featuring a foal drinking Jack Daniels. My south Alabama roots are showing. :(

I ended up buying a very inbred colt from the A. Jaysman sale last month.

Blackjack Player-he's nothing spectacular <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horseped. ... seID=23752' target='_blank'>http://www.simhorseracing.com/horseped. ... D=23752</a>

He's about to undergo the "ultimate equipment change" because he's proven why you don't inbreed, occasionally you might get something good, typically you'll get something marginal or worse.
