Is there much interest?

Post by Cleo Patra »

Witted will likely retire end of this season. He’s related to a lot of things in my barn though so I’m wondering who is keen to breed to him? And what do you think a fair stud fee is?

Yes! If I manage to have extra DR mares this year. I'm trying, at least. He should be at least $25k, maybe more? I tend to undervalue stallions, so maybe don't listen to me.

I think I would definitely be interested, especially based of his fathers reputation so early into his career at stud (4 seasons at stud and produced 37 stakes and 5 freaks). Plus Nighteyes earned over 1m less than Witted did, so I think he has a real shot at being a very good stud but these are just my poorly educated thoughts on the matter. Maybe his first season would be on the low end 25k and on the high end, 40k?
Faking it till I make it, and then faking it some more.

I would definitely use him.
"I was afraid of Gigi, it was true." Oh yes. Be afraid. Be very afraid...
"Gigi, you continue to impress the heck out of me." - The Steward. Okay, it was 10 RL years ago, but I'm keeping it.

For me - Fresheman sires depend on hypo mates; but he's a talented short -mid distance router, which is something I look at to balance my marathoner types, so will definitely check him out. Keeping him in that 25-50K stud fee range initially should get him a decent group of mares, if he does well, then you can always bump him up in subsequent years.
I'm just here for the fun of it
