War Like Me - Y59 Update

Post by Erin Sanderson »

I figured I had better truly make this official and announce that one of my favorite horses ever is going to retire to stud at the end of the season. Save some mares!

This is a VERY special horse. He was a stakes gallop until late in his three-year-old year, and still earned three graded wins and 2 additional seconds in graded company. Since maturing to freak, he has won 9 out of his last 11. "Sammy" has ALL the makings of a sire, with his stellar and versatile race record and blue blooded pedigree. He is by Farseer, an underrated son of the great Heart of the Storm and half brother to Conquerer, Giant, etc., and out of the multimillionaire Lady So Divine, making him a half brother to three other graded stakes winners. Dam Lady So Divine is also a half sister to Through the Ghost, a two-time champion and earner of over $5 million, as well as a very good sire, himself, with over $20 million in progeny earnings. The back class in the female family even beyond Sammy's first and second dams is undeniable. He is yet another representative of the Sway line (fourth dam) that has produced so many other very good horses, including Through the Ghost's best son, Steward's Cup Classic winner Castles Crumble, and that one's multiple grade one winning three-year-old Can't Take the Sky (yes, they are all from different branches of this tail female family).

I have been blessed with a pair of wonderful stallions from this family, but this guy may very well be the best one yet. His stud fee is to be determined, but may be in the range of $50,000 for his first season, depending on the rest of his race record and hypomating.

This boy narrowly missed another record in the Desert Marathon, running the 2nd fastest of all time by just a few ticks of a second. Stay tuned, breeders, he's going to try his hand at 1 1/4 miles again this season.

Just throwing it out there that he is not just a marathon specialist: https://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=1661944

Next up, Oceanside.

Also, he has a fancy webpage of his own because I have no life: http://firstfaithtbds.freehostia.com/sim/warlikeme.html

DEFINITELY not just a marathon specialist after this run, garbage start and all. A light prep in two weeks and he has his sights set on the Steward's Cup Classic before his retirement, where he will await all the pretty mares ;)

One more start for this lovely boy before he retires to stud. Tallest order of his career to date, so we will see. Don't forget to save him a date or two. It should say something that I have my absolute best mares saved for his first book!

In less than 10 hours, it will be time to say goodbye to this guy on the track and I am SAD. But, win, lose or draw, I am also VERY excited to see his foals. The Steward was trying to get me to retire him last year, but I wanted the Desert Marathon and to try 1 1/4 miles this year. Save him a mare or two; I don't think you're going to be disappointed.

I didn't feel particularly confident in his chances in the Classic and may have made a mistake with that 1 1/2 mile prep, but he ran a very good fourth. As soon as I am able, this boy will be retired and I will do some hypomating before I set his fee. Stay tuned!

He has hypos slightly above Castles Crumble (A- with I Am the Storm where Frank is a B+, for example) and is even with DMB on several of the mares I have checked. I also have a flat A nick with a star mare so far (Pilgrim Shadow), much less my blue hens. So, I think it may be a bargain to set his introductory fee at $50,000. Happy breeding!

Last post, I promise. These hypos are almost in lockstep with what DMB gets with the same mares. The only exception was Day Will Break, who ONLY gets a flat A with DMB and no other top stallion. The lone B+ is a "good" mare. I've since gotten A- with a couple formidable mares, as well (Without End and Heart Hold Fast).

Embedding the screenshot isn't working, so just click here for the image. The B+ was with an "unpredictable" mare.

Feel free to share whatever hypo grades you get!

He looks like a great one Erin. I hypoed him to six different mares, 2 each hens, stars, and formidables. He was A- to all. I sent one of the formidables to him and would have sent one of the better ones but they were already bred. Definitely next year. Here’s one of his new babies.

I leased this Star mare from the Desert Scorcher maternal line and wasn't sure who to send her to, so I decided to cruise this Forum and happened across War Like Me. He is very nice!

Here's how the mare nicks with him and a handful of others, for your reference :)

Dave Matthews Band A-/C
Private Affair A-/C
War Like Me A-/C
Guardian Bravo B+/C
Karazhan B+/C
Kingdom Come B+/C
Poet's Corner B+/C

I really like the 3x3 cross to You Are I Am that the breeding created.

I am looking at him as Deputy Dog’s first boyfriend after she retires at the end of this upcoming season.

So far I've sent him 3 mares who were all flat A hypos. I'm very excited to see his gallops next year!

Eric, Lily and Rose, thanks so much for your support for my boy! I think he's very much enjoying retired life with all the lovely dates he is seeing!

Ren, if you click around, my entire stable is on that site. It works better on a computer rather than a mobile, though. Text sizes are a bit all over the place on the mobile version.
