Wildness retirement?

Post by Cleo Patra »

Debating whether to retire Wildness this year or next.

Racing wise it depends on how he performs in his next outing, which will be the Arc. If he won or placed in it I’d seriously consider running next year. If he bombs out he would go to stud.

But I also want to know what the actual interest in sending mares to him is. Please tell me what you think?

Unfortunately in this day and age it depends almost entirely on how he hypos.

He is so nice! But this looks like a tough year with Impacts and your First Class. Dramatisation and Henry are expected to retire (maybe all years are like this). I can say I'm seriously out of decent mares. 😅 Hope to retire one or two....

He's decent lines from both sides. Yet there's a supersire this year in Impacts. So next year maybe.

I would be looking at who’s retiring this year, and who is retiring potentially next year to see which year is the easier. That being said, I think Wildness could be the kind of horse for you that runs on for longer and is always picking up nice hefty cheques. Since you’ve already retired First Class this season, it would probably be better to keep Wildness racing.

But if you do choose to retire, he has a nice pedigree so I don’t see why he wouldn’t see some action. As for if I’d send him mares? That’s a tough one. This season I have basically no mares left and the ones I’m leaving are going to my own stud, and like Tim says for a first season stallion it all hinges on his hypos.

He will be overshadowed by this boy who is also retiring this year.

I think he's the sort that will run well at five. I'd look at sending him mares, regardless of when he retires.

Why would you retire at 4? The Sim bucks (from stud fees) are hollow and meaningless. Winning and competing in big races is the name of the game, for me anyway.

Definitely agree. If I hadn’t been burned by two of my best horses last season falling off their peak as week 9 three year olds, I wouldn’t even be considering it.

Looks like he will definitely run as a 5yo. Whether he wins anything is another story 🤣
