BRAT Ratings for Turf Sprinter Stallions

There were several stallions that were left off of this list because one or more of their parents and/or grandparents were racing or doing workouts prior to Year 44. It looks like there was a big change in how workout times and speed figures were done between Year 43 and Year 44.

If you look at the workout times for Turf 3 Furlongs for Year 43, you will see that the fastest workout time was 35.90 seconds

Speed Figures also dramatically improved between Year 43 and Year 44. This makes BRAT useless for evaluating any horse that was racing or doing workouts prior to Year 44. I have eliminated those horses from the BRAT calculation.

One horse in particular, Hero Morgan, was hurt by this change as his Dam, "She May be Right (CA)" and her Sire "Mr. Vain (KY)" had poor Speed Figures and workout times. "Mr. Vain (KY)", in particular had a BSF of 79 but still won Multiple Stakes Races! "Mr. Vain (KY)" progeny won over $10 million.

I have updated the list to include Stallions that have either Game Point Sires or unraced/unworked out horses as parent/grandparents. If you see N/A in one of the columns, it means that one or more of the horses in that generation do not have a BSF or workout time

This puts "Cape Wearing Kid (AUS)", "Can You Feel It (TX)", "John Christopher (KY)" and "Talus (TX)" at the top of the list. All 4 Stallions did not have a parent that had a BSF or workout time

As a companion table to my Feature News article on Thoroughbred Breeding Analysis: Turf Sprinters, I am showing the BRAT ratings for all of the Turf Sprinters on the Stud Book that have 3 generations of BRAT data. I do not include Stallions that have one (or more) of the parents (2) or grandparents(4) that is Game Sired or otherwise has never ran in a race or has done a workout.

The table lists the name of the horse, the overall BRAT, the predicted BSF if you translate BRAT into BSF, the BRAT for the horse, the average BRAT for his 2 parents and the average BRAT for the 4 grandparents.

To use this date, you will have to compute the BRAT for the mare and then average the BRAT for the mare with the BRAT for the stallion. You can then convert the resulting BRAT into predicted BSF using the Linear Regression equation I supplied in my article on "Thoroughbred Racing Analysis: Workouts - Turf 3F vs BSF" (https://www.simhorseracing.com/featurer ... leID=19225)

The data is in CSV (comma separated format) so you can load the data into a Spreadsheet program for easy reference.

I will update the table at the Break with the new stallions that get put to stud.

Laura Ferguson is correct. Talus' Sire (Toho Jackel) and 3 of his grandparents (Special Week, Toho Gaia, See the Stars) do not have BSFs or workout times, so he did not appear in the original list.

I have now updated the list of Stallions to include the BRAT for those Stallions that had parents/grandparents that do not have BRATs. Those parents/grandparents that do not have a BRAT have "N/A" on the column where the BRAT for the parent or grandparent would be.

In the case where there is an "N/A", The BRAT for the Stallion is based 100% on the Stallion's own BSF (if the parent have no BRAT) or 1/2 the Stallion's BRAT + 1/2 the Stallion's parents' BRAT (if the grandparents have no BRAT).

Thanks for pointing this out. I will update the Dirt Stallions list as well

There was a big change in how Speed Figures and Workout times were calculated between Year 44 and Year 43. This was just pointed out to me by John Smith.

Hero Morgan was penalized because his Dam, "She May Be Right (CA") and her sire, "Mr. Vain" were racing and doing workouts prior to Year 43.

I have made an update to the list and provided an explanation as to what happened.
