Double(?) inbreeding

Post by J.P Dogood »

I don’t know the correct terminology for this but how do you all feel about double inbreeding?

By this I mean multiple 3x3 in a cross or maybe even a 3x3 to horse X with a 3x4 to horse Y in the same cross.

I go back and forth constantly in this game in terms of inbreeding and was curious

You mean like this pedigree? A mixer but my only attempt at a double cross. She ended up being a Allowance and then Star mare and the trick is trying to find outcrosses for her. She came out well but never tried it again as I don't want to much inbreeding particularly in Appys which has a mostly limited gene pool.

I think that it can work, but I feel like the female family has to be pretty strong. Skathis is an example of a 2x3, and 3x4 (along with multiple 4x4), but he also hails from one of the most dominant female families in the DS game.

I personally would prefer not to see so many of the same stallion, but love to see duplicates of influential mares. As Diane noted, it can make it hard to find outcrosses later on.

I have this stakes prog mare https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1492462 that’s I’m praying gets a bm rating in the future. Would love a 3x3 to owl let you know AND viola but I don’t think it’s possible ATM but could get a 3x3 to owl and a 3x4 to viola and I guess I’m concerned if it’s too much

I wouldn't be too concerned with inbreeding to mares, especially those two! I tend to seek out inbreeding to mares like that and hope that they get a double dose of talent either on track or in the shed.

I have several mini breeding programs where I am inbreeding/linebreeding to specific mares including Shalom, Silver Bourne, and This Woman's Work.

Also, when I have a mare I'm not sure who to breed to, I'll look at her pedigree and see if I can find a successful mare with stud colt sons/grandsons. It gives me a starting point. I haven't done anything exciting yet, but my top earning 2 yo (an allowance filly) is from one of these projects. So it's not not working.

I get the feeling that linebreeding is a long term project.

I'm surprised I don't have a pasture full of 3 headed horses. :P I have often done in breeding, line breeding...and had some success with it. I named one of my foals 'Twisted Tree' due to her pedigree...lol

https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1629149

In her 3rd generation...Fortunate, Fortitude, Forgot(sire) and Forehew...are all from my Foremost line. The mare Fortitude, is the dam of Roughian, Mal, and Malcontent. Plus I have sire Nightmarch twice in that generation. :P

I'm going to be pretty interested in what this filly will end up being as far as a broodmare with all those background genetics...however...her offspring, won't be directly influenced that her dam's...given that above generation will be moved back.

Still, I hope what remains in the 3rd generation of Twisted Tree's foals that they will benefit from the 'Foremost' influence.
At that point, With Drama will be the only non-Foremost bred in that generation.
Foretold is a blue hen and has foaled freaks for me. Mal and Couldn't Remember (Blue Hen) will be there.

Tuck Everlasting and Shadows will move back to the 2nd generation. Shadows is Star type mare.
So there will still be a strong influence of that line for Twisted Tree's foals.

I don't mind at all if horses in question are really top horses, both for racing and in the breeding shed. Windborn has a double dose of Sidney and Shahir'ra https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.p ... ID=1283402

D'jinn - https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1389907 - is 3x4 to Eohippus and 3x4 to Western Sunset (2 different full sibs - stud Shatterdome on the female side and the mare Silver Borne in the sire's side) and 4x4 to Black Heart.

He is a not so freaky freak
I'm just here for the fun of it

Breed her to Owl Be Up Front if you really want to play with it. Gets you 2x3 Owl and 3x3 Viola. Don't know exactly how well it would work, but that's a lot of good genetics. When Mandalorian retires, he would give you 3x3 Owl and 4x3 Viola.
