MATTAWAN - AWS/TS - retired, nice hypos!

Post by Laura Smith »

One of the cooler horses I've ever bred is likely to hit the shed at the end of this season.

MATTAWAN is a SC winner and multiple G1 winner on AW, as well as a multiple graded winner on turf. He's been brilliant, running as fast as a 96SF on AW and 91SF on turf (that last while running second by a nose to $5m earner Right Here Now in the Saudi Cup.)

Pretty solid dual-surface pedigree on this one, being by Battaash, with Deep Sky Day (who was so underrated) and Lucky Bubbles on his dam's side.

He's measurably better on AW than turf, I think, but he could still be a super cool option for the growing dual-surface sprint community.

Consider him when making plans this year!

I'm too tired to do too much hypoing right now but the first few tests have been really promising, including one mare who has previously had all A-'s (including to high hypoers like Pinatubo) and Mattawan was her only flat A.

Would love to see results from single surface mares, as all my hypos so far have been dual surface - if anyone cares to share, I'd appreciate it!

I hypo'd 6 to him, all decent mares and the 3 TS were all straight A, the 3 AWS were 2 A- and one straight A. All I had time for to date

He's looking really nice for AWS, flat A to a mare whose other As so far are Ghostly Forensics and Keeper of Memories (and presumably Lloyd's Keeping It, haven't bothered spending the GP there)

Love this horse, was waiting for him.
I only have TS, hypo´s better than his father, usually A with my Blue Hens, A and A- with my Stars and some A- with my Formidables.

Worth using him !!

Amazing! Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. This was just what I was hoping for from this guy - I've been trying to breed a nice dual surface stud for years now. Pretty pumped!

Thanks to everyone for all the support! He booked full rather quickly.

I wasn't going to buy more spots for this year, but I'm so excited to see him with these Maclean's Music mares that I had to open a few up. Have at it!
