List of Shorthand Comments

Post by Regina Moore »

We players in SIM tend to use a lot of shorthand for our horses, which I'm sure can be perplexing to newbies. We speak of a "wings" horse or a "formidable" mare or a "natural" steeplechaser.

I've put on my website a list of shorthand words used to describe our horses, and the underlying comment behind each of the common words, as well as ranking them by what is generally believed by players to be best to worst.

The webpage is here.

Great idea Regina and I'm sure this will be very helpful to the new players!!

Maybe this should be stickied (sp?) so it doesn't get missed by any new players?

What about rankings from the bloodstock agent?
That's a good idea.

The problem is that the bloodstock agent won't tell you about your own horse, if it's not retired, since the point of the bloodstock agent for race horses and youngsters is to give a potential buyer an indication of the gallop comment, since non-owners of a horse can't see the gallop comment. (There were some accusations, before the bloodstock agent, that sellers sometimes lied about the gallop comment for a horse. The bloodstock agent is a way for buyers to protect themselves regarding a potential purchase.)

I do know that the bloodstock comments are worded differently than the gallop comment. I believe a wow/stakes says something like "buy! buy! buy!", and a wings says something like, "buy, if the price is right", and a hard to tell says something like, "this horse could be anything, from claimer to a stakes horse." I have no idea what the bloodstock would say about a ""scary good" or a "needs improvement" horse.

If anyone has the exact wording for any of the comments, please let me know and I'll include it on the comments webpage. Or, if one wants to pay the 10k to copy what the bloodstock agent says about some of my horses, here's the names of some horses:

Scary Good/Special Animal -- Victory Bend

Wow/Stakes -- Show Games

Wings/Great - Soft Days

OK/HTT -- Wooded Night

Claimer -- Blaze Awake

I haven't bred any needs improvement/stiff and awkward horses in a while. If anyone wants to give me the name of one that hasn't been pensioned, I'll see what the bloodstock agent has to say (that could be fun).

Then Miss Anna is fibbing, lol. Her introductory comment says that grades go from "A+ to C".

Here you go, Regina. Consider it a donation as thanks for putting this together.

Anna “Liza” Doolittle Says:
"Here is my analysis of Victory Bend.

'Victory Bend' is a really impressive animal. What are you waiting for? Buy! Buy! Buy!
Additionally, I'm not sure 'Victory Bend' will ever be a steeplechaser."

Anna “Liza” Doolittle Says:
"Here is my analysis of Show Games.

'Show Games' is a really impressive animal. What are you waiting for? Buy! Buy! Buy!
Additionally, I'm not sure 'Show Games' will ever be a steeplechaser."

Anna “Liza” Doolittle Says:
"Here is my analysis of Soft Days.

'Soft Days' has a whole lot of upside and could end up being a stakes horse one day. It's worth a gamble to purchase this one at the right price.
Additionally, I'm not sure 'Soft Days' will ever be a steeplechaser."

Anna “Liza” Doolittle Says:
"Here is my analysis of Wooded Night.

'Wooded Night' could be any kind of horse, literally. Claimer, allowance, or stakes horse, there's lots of potential here!
Additionally, I'm not sure 'Wooded Night' will ever be a steeplechaser."

Anna “Liza” Doolittle Says:
"Here is my analysis of Blaze Awake.

'Blaze Awake' disappointed me at first glance. I'd advise you to stay away unless you're looking for a solid claimer, then 'Blaze Awake' is your horse.
Additionally, I'm not sure 'Blaze Awake' will ever be a steeplechaser."

Great, thanks Cleo!

I'm wanting to double-check Victory Bend to make sure she's still a scary, but I have to wait until next week.

If you or anyone else wants to try a "needs improvement", I realize a youngster bred for steeplechasing would qualify:

Regina, thanks for this. As for someone who's been here awhile, I learned a lot about the significance of these comments.

Thanks too to Cleo for her contribution & what it revealed.
It's better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it.
