Could a horse ever have a chance when racing the wrong distance (according to pedigree)?
Say a productive router in a mile claim race..?
Or a sprinter in a small or less competitive mile race field..?
What could work? Has there been any studies made?

Re: Question: racing wrong distans?
It would depend on the quality of the field and your horse's actual abilities. You wouldn't know for certain whether the distance is "wrong" until you have tried. If the field is small and your horse may pick up money regardless of how it fares in the race there is no harm in trying.
Sometimes your horses may stand a better chance to earn more money in a race seemingly not meant for them (such as a router over a mile, or a claimer in a small field grade 1 race).

Re: Question: racing wrong distans?
In my experience, the only time a horse will win at the "wrong" distance is if all the other entries are also at the wrong distance; in other words, it's a race with just horses trying to earn purse money as "fillers" in a small field.
Having said that, I'm a big proponent of players -- especially newish players trying to build up their bank balance -- of entering at the "wrong" distance to take advantage of a small field, since purse money is always paid back to fifth place. If your horse is of low quality and doesn't have much chance of winning at its correct distance in a large field, then it can make more sense to race it at the wrong distance/surface in a small field.
