The trainer specifically says "You should bring him along carefully."
Is there anything anyone actually does differently to make this happen? Or is this more like a flavor text kind of thing?
I reread the help bits about confidence and barrier trials. If for example I had a late bloomer who has been doing well but suddenly gets trounced, is my interpretation correct that I could simply put him in a barrier trial and effectively "reset" him?

Re: Late Bloomer question
It's really more of a flavor text kind of thing that's meant to help manage player's expectations.
The barrier trial/confidence can help with any horse that has been losing, whether the horse is peak, late bloomer or progressive.
