Indy
So in six months we have underwent extensive groundwork with Indy, starting his training from the bottom up to get him ready to be my trail mount and show pony. So we've finally reached the point we're playing around with bits and driving with him. He went from being an extremely over reactive horse (any kind of sudden movement, any sudden sounds, etc.) to only being slightly reactive but there is still more work to be done with the "golden child".
This video was taken about a month ago with me working with him on some desensitization. 6 months ago doing an exercise with him like this one would have had him in the rafters lol He is also super good when you're on the ground with him. He'll follow you where you put him and when you stop he stops.
Doing some ground work over the poles, he handled the ladder like a pro:

Re: Indy
He's lovely, Fanta! With that kind of good background training, he'll be something else when it's all said and done!

Thanks guys! My friends, who are the people I board him with, have put in a TON of work with him and I can't wait to see how much more he progresses. I'll have to post updates along the way!

Re: Indy
For the first time in nearly 3 years.. I rode Indy!
He did sooo good, and apparently he neck reins! His gait is super smooth and he does everything so willingly <3
He also takes little to no pressure in the mouth to respond to your cues, and he responds to leg pressure beautifully.

Re: Indy
Thank you Lori and Darcy! He's going to be so nice when it's all said and done. He has a nice foundation laid before I got him (since we're figuring out what he already knows and it's awesome what all he knows/does), but the groundwork that's been put into him since November is nothing short of amazing.

Re: Indy
Well, last week Indy played a little rough with Jazz and received a minor boo-boo.
Nothing some medication, hydrotherapy, and 24 hours of stall rest didn't cure. He was vet cleared to ride so we did some light riding with him; mainly working on desensitization exercises in the saddle. We also played around with neck reining a bit. I'm super rusty with that and still learning what he knows and responds to, but he did super well!
Link to the video, it was storming off and on outside (thunder mainly), so we rode in the barn yesterday and there wasn't much space. Hopefully the weather is pretty in a couple of weeks and we can make use of the bigger ring outside.

Re: Indy
So it has been four months since I last updated and things have been going so great.
We have graduated from riding in the ring to actually trail riding on the farm, and we're about to go on our first trail ride away from the farm in a few weeks. So much work and time has gone into Indy and he's turned into such an amazing horse to be around. He's so smart and sweet, with just a touch of competitiveness and mischief in him. There isn't a mean bone in his body, and he is so brave and willing.
He's turned into my best buddy and I can't wait to take him trail riding and for our bond to grow even more.
I think Indy's favorite part of the ride was definitely the reward at the end. His favorite treat: a slice of bread (he's definitely my horse, bread is my kryptonite)
