Lanes End Farm

Post by Fanta Arcadia »

Just visited Lanes End Farm today and I can't say nice enough things about them. The guides were warm and welcoming, the horses were amazing, the grounds were beautiful, and the weather was perfect. They paraded 3 horses in front of us: Candy Ride, Union Rags, and Quality Road.

QUALITY ROAD <3

FUN FACT: A stipulation in Lanes End's contract with his owners is that Lanes End cannot cut his iconic forelock.

The horse who needs no introduction and the whole purpose of the trip. AP is 30 this year.

His groom said he had mellowed a TON over the years. Back in his prime he would chase you out of his stall; now in the twilight of his life he is content to be welcoming and kind, a gentleman of a stallion.

Union Rags was stunning!

I'm so glad I got to see A.P. Indy. At 30 I knew he doesn't have a lot of time left, and was just praying he'd be there when I got there. For 30 years old, he looks fantastic though! The guide, who is a member of their sale/consignment team, mentioned he had only changed grooms once in his 27 years there and that was out of necessity. You can tell they adore him there, he definitely is the king.

You can also tell he's done a few conformation shots in his day lol Union Rags was all fidgety and paw-y and Quality Road was like, "Make sure you're getting my good side.... who am I kidding, every side is my good side!"

Quality Road is such a striking horse. Though he tends to make me giggle because of his little moment at the 2009 Breeder's Cup Classic... That's when I started paying attention to the name <3 hehe

Hi, good to see A p Indy still going strong, is Mineshaft standing there? asking because I was head man when he was trained in England (John Gosdens) and rode him work on a few occasions.

Quality Road is one impressive looking animal, handsome as ever. Also who would want to cut his forelock? He looks like he uses it to look as sassy as possible. Liam's Map is a favorite of mine, he's drop dead gorgeous! Then again, who doesn't love a good dapple grey

Beautiful pictures, Fanta, thank you so much for sharing them. They all look gorgeous and so well taken care of. Loving how good A P Indy still looks at his age.

I visited AP Indy at Lane’s End in 1998. I first saw him in Florida for the 1992 Breeder’s Cup. I was obsessed with him. In fact, obsessed with anything Slew. Here are some of my photos of Slew and his clan.
