I just realized that my puppy is 5 months old and I still have not shared pictures of him with you all.
This is Veto, the four-legged love of my life. Why is he named Veto? Well, my fiance is a cat person and tried to veto us getting the dog... Obviously, that did not work. By the way; he takes the puppy to work with him almost daily, teaches him tricks, and I'm pretty sure the puppy likes him better (funny how that works, eh?). Our goal is to get this guy Canine Good Citizen certified, which should not be difficult considering that he is SMART. He stays (and if you drop a treat in front of him, he won't budge), sits, shakes, lays down, dies when you say "BANG", rolls over, speaks, and pops up onto his hind legs if you say "up". He has already been on a road trip across the US with no issue, and has even flown. There's not a single thing I cannot do with this dog........ Except trim his nails. He goes full psycho on me and needs a muzzle; I guess we all have something, right?
His litter was an "oopsie" that happened when a friend of a friend's female dog got loose in their neighborhood. They came to a yard sale my mom and I were having and showed us puppy pictures. I saw this dog's picture and HAD to go meet him. The rest is history. It's funny; my first dog as a little girl was a $50 mutt puppy that my mom and dad got me. Fitting that as an adult, I should find myself once again loving a $50 mutt. My best friend took home a female from the litter, so we have sibling dogs <3
His mom is Beagle/Dachshund and they are pretty sure the dad is a Chihuahua that they had seen roaming around the neighborhood.

Beagles mixed with small breeds (e.g, Pug, Dachshund, Chihuahua) are always cute. But your puppy is exceptionally cute.
Thanks for posting the photos.

Re: Hello From Veto The Puppy
Veto is adorable! And, while I'm not saying Dachshunds and Chihuahuas are dumb... I would place a win/place/show bet that he got his smarts from the beagle part of his breeding...lol. I've dealt with more than a few dogs from each of those breeds and beagles seem to be pretty quick on the uptake when it comes to learning stuff.
And to be fair, I think sometimes people get smaller dogs like dachshunds and chihuahuas and just let them get away with doing things they wouldn't let a dog 5 to 10 pounds heavier get away with... like snapping, and jumping up and down against someone's legs...etc. I had a small dog, Shilo, who was probably a poodle x min-pin mix. I called her my 'Barely There' dog, she weighed about 7 pounds.
She was more difficult to train that other dogs I had, but not by much, it just took a little longer but she learned. I just always thought little head, little brain. But she was a sweet, gentle girl, and always so...cheerful/happy. She wasn't nervous about anything, thunder and fireworks didn't phase her in the slightest. She was good with kids, and other animals...never snapped at anyone.
From the way you described your Veto, it doesn't sound like there will be any problem getting his certificate : ) It also sounds like he doesn't have a boring life...motoring across the USA and plane trips and not even out of puppy-hood yet.
Also, in case you don't know...at around 8 to 10 months...a lot of dogs when hitting that 'adolescence' period, will suddenly 'turn stupid' for a few months and act as if you've never taught them a single thing...and they can really push your buttons until they get past that period in their life and get back to doing what they know they should be doing...lol.

As a long time Beagle owner, breeder and competitor, I agree. Beagles, in general, are truly exceptionally smart. And 99% are very food and/or toy motivated. But, I am biased! LOL
And Veto is a cutie bootie!

Couldn't help but associate your dog's face with that of my own Siamese cat. To a long and healthy life, Veto!

Ah - Chihuahua and dachsund - that accounts for the 'Cujo' problems when you're doing his nails !
