In England after leaving school if you happen to be a also ran
It was tradition to give your mum the first weeks wages you earned after leaving school, and your mum would promptly give it you all back.
The second week i did the same ,it was £4 ..8 shilling she again gave it me back saying "open a bank account and put a bit away each week"
I said, mum i want to pay my way for all the time you you brought me up.
She then reeled of a list that would fill a bible.
She never took a penny of me , but i quicky learnt, I COULD NEVER REPAY MUM. WITH MONEY.
