Dropdown menu or Typing
When you need to enter a horse name, in Hypo-mating or booking, we give you an intelligent text box and you begin to type the horse's name and it give you a list of matching horse name. This is because we don't want you to have to enter a horse id number, and because we have so many horses, a dropdown menu would be impractical.
In contrast, when you compose a private message, choose an assistant or transfer games points to a player, we give you two dropdown menus - the first are your buddies, and the second is everyone.
The question...
When selecting a player, would you prefer to have an intelligent text box (like with hypo and booking horses), or the dropdowns like we have now?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Probably the intelligent text box, but I don't have a significant preference.

I actually have no preference for one over the other.

Re: Dropdown menu or Typing
The drop downs are nice because sometimes between going "oh! I need to send so-and-so a message" and creating the message I forget who I'm sending it to!

Intelligent text box
Editing this post to say that I'm good with either, only slightly in favour of the text box.

Definitely the intelligent box for smaller screens. Makes no difference on my computer.

What Cleo said. On my phone it would definitely be easier to have the intelligent box, on my computer it doesn't matter.

Re: Dropdown menu or Typing
Ditto Lori. On my computer I can start typing and have the drop down auto-scroll to the section I need, but on my phone that doesn't happen, so count me in for intelligent text box.

Thanks for your feedback. All the places where you choose a player's name have been changed to the intelligent text box.
As a bonus, the Owner, Breeder and Horse fields on the search page are also intelligent now.

Re: Dropdown menu or Typing
I don't like the new format. I liked being able to see the my buddies list and the players list and just using a mouse to select.
