Google Voice or Australian SMS? (SMS alerts)

Post by Gwen Morse »

I live in Australia and I have two ways I can receive SMS messages.

One is to get text messages through my Australian carrier. The other is to use my Google Voice number, which I signed up for before I left the US.

For Australia, my phone is on the Vodafone network. There aren't any Australian providers listed. Google Voice also isn't listened in the US phone providers.

Any help on what I need to do to set up SMS messaging would be helpful :D.

Edit: I tried both numbers but I didn't get a confirmation message, which shows I configured something wrong.

Google Voice doesn't provide a way to send emails to be delivered as SMS. Here is the info I found for Vodafone - However, none say Australia.

Vodafone Germany number@vodafone-sms.de
Vodafone Italy number@sms.vodafone.it
Vodafone Portugal number@sms.vodafone.
Vodafone Spain 0number@vodafone.es
Vodafone New Zealand number@mtxt.co.nz

You could experiment by sending an email to your phone number like this: xxxxxxx@mtxt.co.mz and see if it works.

The alternative is to have alerts send to your email and get those on the phone.
