TBS yearling auction

Post by David Howard »

In the TBS yearling auction https://www.simhorseracing.com/auction ... ionID=6025 you should be only able to have the highest bid on three horses. If you sort by the current highest bidder there seems to be a few instances where this doesn't hold true. Probably just a coding bug.
Turf Mile stud:
Devonshire Lad

Turf Route studs:
Daddy Green
- $10,000
Mauriously - $10,000
Dunk and Egg - $10,000

That auction started out with a maximum of five horses, then was changed to three horses. I think the ones with five were the players who put bids on five horses before that rule was changed.

Another way someone can get more than the specified number of high bids is if they place bids on several horses and get outbid. Then player B, who outbid them no longer has enough money to cover their bids, then their bids would be removed and player A's next higher bid would become the highest again. So player A might have had 3 high bids, and then, through no effort of their own, player B's bid is removed and player A becomes the high bidder on an additional horse.

Hard to follow the logic, have I got this right? Even if you're outbid your bid still stands as long as you have the dough to cover it because the simmer who outbid you on horseA may land horseB thus having their bid removed on horseA as you can only land one horse per simmer in this kind of auction. Phew, how's that for a run-on sentence. If this is true I don't see how you can remove ANY bid because many high bids are removed as horses are acquired. Are horses processed randomly in an auction such as this?

While the auction is open, a player must have enough cash to cover all their high bids in that auction. If your cash falls below the required amount, bids will be canceled to the point that the player again has enough to cover their bids. Then, when the auction closes and is processed, yes, the horses are processed in random order. In auctions where the number of wins is limited, preference is given to people with the highest bid on each horse. If the highest bid is held by a player whose other bids already got them the max allowable wins in that auction, then it looks for the highest "underbid". The code is meticulous and has been refined over the years.

I hope that helps.
