So sad. I had really hoped he would beat the demons that took over his life. What a sad end to a wonderful person and career.

Agreed Lou. So sad it put a damper on my night. I will never forget his ride on Blame.

Unfortunately not the first jockey to full prey to drugs and won't be the last. Between earning good money at young ages (thus becoming targets for dealers) and dabbling in "go" drugs for weight loss, a lot of top class jockeys have been brought down.
RIP Garrett

Re: R.I.P. Garrett Gomez
Such a huge shame, he was one of the most talented I've seen on a horse. I really hoped that leaving racing would get him on the right path, I'm sad it didn't.
