Inadvertent scratch?

Post by Ronnie Dee »

At Saratoga, Jakarta was inadvertently scratched out of the Grade 3, $200,000 Caress (Race 10). She was allowed to race but no wagering on her was permitted. In the field of 6, she finished last.

How common are inadvertent scratches?

I've seen races where one horse out of an entry was scratched and the 2nd was run as a nonbetting entity. Maybe that's your answer ?

Never heard of an "inadvertent scratch." But the New York racing jurisdiction is replete with questionable rules.
Jockey Trevor McCarthy married jockey Katie Davis. When the Aqueduct meet opened this Winter, the two were told that according to NY rules, if they rode in the same race, they would have to be coupled for wagering purposes. This limited Davis' potential to get mounts hindering her ability to make money. The outcome...McCarthy is moving his tack to California. In the meantime brothers, jockeys Irad & Jose Ortiz are allowed to compete against each other with no coupling required,

This husband-wife story story is so incredible! But at least the NY legislature is finally repealing this antiquated rule --

Now maybe someone can explain the ' voided claim ' to me. Seems to be quite a lot at Saratoga. I do know that for one the claim is voided if the voidee didn't pay a fee to Thoroughbred Alliance for rehoming, but is that it ?
