Forego Stakes

Post by Ronnie Dee »

Rather than racing in the stretch (and probably winning the race), Firenze Fire decided to savage Yaupon. He even had Yaupon's bridle in his month for a moment. Firenze Fire would have been clearly DQ-ed if he crossed the line first.

The crazy thing is that Firenze Fire WAS savaged in 2018, and Barbara Livingston won an Eclipse Award for the photo. Guess he never forgot?

Way back when...

I use to follow a nice runner named Marfa. He got into trouble for savaging a horse, and his jockeys said he was a handful sometimes. I heard on one t.v. broadcast that his reputation was such that he was nickname was Marfa the mugger. lol.

yeah that was quite the spectacle, what is funny is that its easy to give horse's human emotions.. Once the jockey ortiz grabbed his reins he straightened right out, and then if you were thinking like a human, youd think he go after the horse again, but no, the ordeal was over and he was already playing innocent before they hit the finish line!

I’ve ridden a couple of horses who’ve done that. Usually mares! Usually costs them the race too 🙄

My mare was known for that. Then she turned to using her back end in warm up when we switched to eventing. Now her babies show a flavor of that, but it's tempered by a big dose of warmblood through the stallions!
