I know this isn't a yes/no question; it's just a brainstorm. But why would he turn on the lights before commiting suicide? Or go upstairs for that matter?

Does the "someone" who gets hurt someone else besides the man? (referring to Mike Eaton's question). And whould that someone be mentioned on the radio?

Although these aren't YES or NO questions, the answers to these questions are very important to solving this riddle...

1. Was the light larger then your typical desk lamp?
2. Does this story take place on the coast?
