Tonight's Stake's race at Ruidoso

Post by Stormy Peak »

This looks like it's going to be a great race.

http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=66006

~My horse, Quick Fire is unbeaten at this point, but running longer than in prior races.

~Laura Ferganson's colt, Four Sixes, looks like a powerhouse and has won at 650 yards.

~LaDonna King's stake winning colt, Buckskin Joe's, is the 3rd highest money winner QH 3yr old colt and after a bad race at a shorter distance is going back to a longer distance tonight.

Two other winners at 650 yards:
~ Benny Jame's, Vaporized
~Claire Roiland's, Golden Dazzler

~Bryan Doolittle's Ghostfreak came in third in a stakes race and seems to like the longer distance.

Tasha Langly's Fast Gas won his maiden at 500 yards after trying twice to win at shorter distances...so 650 yards might suit him just great.

I just seeded the betting pool with $1,000 on my Quick Fire. 8)

I have a lot of confidence in him, but also I think anything could happen in this race with lightly raced horses trying find their nitch as far as distance, and a few others who are proven stakes winners already and doing so well.

Any other thoughts on this race?

I threw in a couple of hundred on mine. Not to confident in the added distance for him. There are a lot of really nice ones in this race!

Quarter Horse Terminology Question:
Since this is a hook race (race that starts on the backside and includes a left turn around the far turn), are the colts in this race referred to as "hookers"?

if a track ran 650 i'd guess they'd have a long chute otherwise you'd be starting at the very top of the turn. since 870's don't give you much space to the turn even on the bull rings. And all 550 races i've seen are run straight. So i'd say a 650 is also a straight race since it's only 100 yards longer.
