Wow, I forgot how hard finding the right cross is. Plus it seems like all the horses I remember are now dead. *g* Anyone got any general tips for finding a good stallion?

Yes, but I was always bugging Eric and everyone else before and I'd like to learn to do it myself, eventually... or I guess I should say hopefully.

A simple piece of advice would be to check your mares female family for ideas.

1. Your mares own foals
2. Her dams foals
3. Her sisters foals

You will likely find at least one cross that seems to have worked. Taking into consideration of course your mares distance/surface and the stallions preferences.. If you find a stallion that's a little out of price range or no longer in the sim, just look for siblings, or sons of that stallion. Run it thru the Hypo Mater to make sure it's not gross, then cross your fingers..

Also if you happened to find your mares family has all been crossed with Storm Cat (for example) why not try something different ? It could be good, it could be bad, but you won't know if you don't try.

I figured that this question was worth a response somewhere other than this forum, since I'd rather it not slip off the bottom of this page as the message gets old, so I wrote something up and sent it to Emily for publication in Sports Simulated Online. I'll be posted when she gets around to it, but it gives a few general guidelines.

I look at any/all of the following:
1. What the mare has produced well with in the past.
2. What the mare's dam has produced well with.
3. What other daughters of the dam have produced well with.
4. What other daughters of the sire have produced well with.
5. What broodmare sires the sire has produced well with.

That almost always gives me a slew of potential options
