How Are Winners Chosen?

Post by The Steward »

There is a formula for each horse, and you have to figure out what equipment/ distance/ surface/ track condition that horse runs well with. Other factors include post position/ jockey ability/ experience/ fitness/ confidence. Horses also mature at different ages; some are superb two-year-olds and some won't win until they are older. Up to three generations of pedigree also factor in this formula.

The formula translates to a finish time in a race at a certain distance. That finish time can be also affected by bad racing luck and race scenario, such as too many speed horses in one race will cause the speed horses to tire and a closer to win, or a stumble at the break will affect your time. The horses are then sorted by finish time and that is how the race result is "chosen."
