*News Flash* Ultra Made looking for a mate

Post by Anna Leroux »

Following this year Ultra Made will retire because there isn't enough stakes races to continue to race her.

Ultra Made was the Year 23 Two Year Old Appaloosa Filly SIMMY Winner.

She has excelled at 400 yards.

Some Facts
- Winner of Array of Color Stakes, Appaloosa Juvenile Fillies Championship, and The Chatter Stakes
- Not competitive at any other distance.
- Speed Figures of 73, 68, 69, and 73 in her wins. Her two losses resulted in a 67 (400 yard race), 37 (300 yards)

Nothing is to expensive for this filly.

I want the best 400 yard Appaloosa stallion out there for her.

Your job is to find me that stallion and pimp him. I want details about him.

Good luck and may the best stallion win!

I realize his record this year has been awful, but how about last year's Appaloosa Horse of the Year, Crimson Pirate? He'll be retiring week 16 (maybe sooner), but I haven't decided on a fee yet. I promise it will be reasonable, though.

((Because I have nothing better to do.. and I like to give my opinions because it makes me feel smart even though I have no Appaloosa stallions..))

If *I* were breeding this mare, which I wish I was.. here are a few options that I would consider.

Crimson Pirate is interesting.. and certainly not a horse that I would throw out of my barn. However I don't think he's going to get 400-yards, as he appears to be more comfortable with 300-350 yards. His first race was a maiden race that he won by two lengths at 350-yards, and then his next two races were stakes at 300-yards with speed figures of 75 (maiden race was a 77). Then he was entered into a stakes that was an 870-yard'er which I'm pretty certain he had plenty of rest from.. and boom. We have a last-place finish and a speed figure of 32. Then he is entered *back* into 300-350 yard stakes races, and he finishes first twice and second by just a nose. His second and third race this year were at 400 yards, and again.. boom. Speed figures of 35 and 32 (respectively) and fifth place finishes in both.

Personally I think that if you breed Tall Over to Crimson Pirate, you're not quite going to get what you're looking for. The mare was not competitive at any lengths other than 400, and the stallion couldn't get up to 400. It's an experiment that I would TOTALLY give a chance in the future, but I, personally, and more concerned about working on building my stable up rather than experimenting with seeing what leaps and bounds that I can overcome. (By the way, Teri, I have a couple of little 2 y/o Appy fillies that might be sent Priate's way when he does retire.. and I'm excited to see if he'll bounce back in his Week 10 Allowance!)

Doing a search looking at male Appaloosas that may possibly be retiring (or may not be..), here are a few that caught my eye:

Mike Prevost's Cushman looks fun. Cushman has the same problem as your mare does, being that he is not competitive at any other level other than 400 yards so far. He's only broken his maiden, won an NW3, and won a small stakes.. but I'm still quite drawn to him. He's popped out speed figures in the 70's in all but one of his 400-yard races, and he was only just recently defeated at his distance by a neck to Bryan Helmer's Corny Fuse (which I became excited about when I saw him, and wrote up a long reason of why you should consider Corny Reason, then promptly realized that breeding a gelding to a mare probably would not make the SIM happy).

Emily Mitchell has a 2 y/o (whom I *hope* is not retiring anytime soon.. and I'm quite thrilled to see how well he's done so far!) called Master Disaster. He's broken his maiden at 400-yards with a SF of 69 and he's also won a stakes race at 400-yards with a SF of 68. PLUS! In his very first race he placed second in the Ruidoso Appaloosa Futurity (300-yards) behind Rob Kilbourn's Beergoggles.. so he appears to be competitive at 300-yards, as well!

Speaking of Rob.. has anyone noticed the oodles and oodles of NICE Appaloosas he has? I just did a quick search on the Appaloosas and he has several stakes winning horses that are over the $100,000 mark, and they are STILL going.. plus he has a cool little string of 2 y/o's and yearlings coming along. So, Anna, perhaps you can go bug Rob if you end up not seeing anything you really like. Surely he'll have SOMETHING in his barn that might interest you.

I would have so used Corny Reason too lol. Em can you ungeld this one? LOL

I like Cushman but I don't know my mare is THE mare at the best of the game in the mare side at 400 yards ya know? I want THE stallion for her, not just a niceish one. I am being really picky, and that's not very helpful lol. I just want to see her to the best of the best. I have a bunch of 400 yard stakes fillies which sucks, since I have no colts at that level.

I recommend running through the 400-yard stakes races and seeing who all won them this year (and possibly last?).. and then go from there. You might find some horses that are trying to swing under the radar and surprise us (which, anyone trying to do so WILL be discovered - I'm determined of this) when the colt retires. If anything, maybe you can at least get some ideas of what might match up with your filly the best.

I think you're right...and CP is only in an allowance because I'm worried about his confidence.

I also have a two year old, Mojo Magic, who will not be retiring any time soon, but he has won a Stakes over 400 yards (I wish I could actually get him in another race, but I don't have money for GPs and there's just no Stakes races for him at all...) Given how new mixed breed racing is, I probably will stand him when he retires, but it won't be this year or next. Most of my Stakes winners are female.

My recommendation is to run again next year. We already talked about it, but you can get at least 5 stakes races in, if not a 6th.

Or you can do what Jarrod says.

Maybe your stakes schedule could go as following? That's six races right there.

Week 3 - Hold Your Breath Stakes

Week 6 - Be Sorry Stakes
http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=82243

Week 8 - The Chatter Stakes (double hit?)
http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=82345

Week 10 - Maybe an allowance?

Week 14 - Spot The Dots Stakes

Week 16 - SIM Racing Appaloosa Classic

That was the exact schedule I had thought out, except i was thinking week 11 allowance.

Yeah, 11 is the better. I think that's what I originally typed, thought there was a stakes week 10 and didn't re-change it when I was mistaken.. but I agree on week 11.
