If anyone does racing photography I would like to see your work. I just got into it myself. My stuff is here: http://batisi3o9.deviantart.com/ & here: http://www.myspace.com/lavamanwins (you have to have a myspace account to see these).
I am curious what film speed you guys shoot on. I have a Nikon D50 and generally set the digital film speed to ISO 400 for full sun and shoot at a speed of about 800-1600 while tracking them with the lens.

A couple of the member's work is there.
I use a Canon Rebel and generally shoot at ISO 400 or even lower if it's really bright out. I have a really bad cheap lens that came with the camera, because I haven't been able to afford a real lens yet, so the pictures are typically still slightly grainy, but the camera can produce some really nice moody effects when set right. The one problem I've noticed with this camera is that it's really unhappy with white balance issues.

Equipment used varies. Started with a Canon D30 and a Tamron 75-300. Next, I think, was the lens upgrade to a Canon 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 or something. Then I got a Canon 10D. Now I just got a new lens, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8. Great lens. Next on the list is a Canon 20D, but after the lens, that might be a while.
Worth mentioning that that's my own equipment. When I shoot the turn for the track photographer I use his Nikon D2HS and 600mm f/4.

Mine is a part of the turfangels.com gallery because Emily is nice.
hehehehe I use a stupid little digital camera that is just a family camera that I'm sure no one ever intended taking horse racing pictures with.
I am in the market for a better camera but I can only spend maybe $200 max. Any good buys you guys know of?

I use a minolta. It is big. lol I have 3 lens for it 35-70, 100-300 and a 500. This picture was taken with the 500:
It's a manual focus, and it was the firt time i used that lens. so taking pictures of the works was hard. LOL TH'at Boonsboro Road if anyone cares.
I use 800 speed film. Usually kodak max. This trip i used my mom's Minolta digital, and i love the sports setting. lol.

I use a Canon 20D with a 100-400 IS lens. I love my equipment, it's the BEST! And I'm getting help with learning how to use it slowly while I learn both in school (I'm a photo major) and by the photo editor of the school newspaper (I'm the sports photographer there). I just had my first shot of a soccer game published this week!

I have the Nikon D70s and N80, and generally shoot with an ISO from 200 to 400. Rarely do I go above 400. Film I use 100, 200, or 400...mostly 400 'cause focusing on the enlarger with such fine grain as 100 is a PITA.Blu Zebra Racing wrote: If anyone does racing photography I would like to see your work. I also work at a camera shop and teach people how to take better pictures. You really should never go above 400. You can stop the motion in low light with an ISO of 400 and a shutter speed of 250 or more if you have a monopod to help. You go above 400 and you risk losing resolution. Also, try your best to keep your aperture as wide as possible (aka Aperture Priority mode) when in low light. That'll allow for the fastest possible shutter speed.

Nice work everyone. I am going to have to look into posting on this finalturngallery site.
Emily, not for $200. You could get a nice 6mp digital non-SLR for just a little over that, but I don't know if you could get enough optical zoom off of it to get the horses as big as you would want (digital zoom is crap). The digital SLRs that use the interchangeable lenses are pricy, and so are the lenses.
I have a Tamaron 28-300 lens, it's good up to 200mm. Freaking heavy... but I am guessing that 500mm is more of a *, especially on manual focus, crazy girl!

I see some people here are on deviant. Mine is being...weird? If you look at my "Recent Deviations" there are pictures there that I just added. Then if you browse my gallery they aren't there when you sort by newest and ones that I've deleted are there. Then if you sort by "popular" the stuff that's supposed to be there is. Anybody else seeing it this way or is it just being weird for me?

You might want to contact someone on the site about that.
