My rule of thumb is simply to ship when I enter the horse, so that I don't forget to do it. I usually enter 2 weeks in advance of a race. I ceretainly wouldn't wait to ship a horse to the track any later than the Thursday before the Saturday it is slated to run.

I do the same thing. When I go to enter the horse, I ship him/her to the track at that point. I know that if I didn't do it that way, I would completely forget.

I take a little different approach then Eric. I also enter 2 weeks out, but at time of entry I ship to a farm close to the track. From there, I tend to ship to the track the Wed. or Thurs. before the race. If I plan to ship across continents, I try to do far as far in advance as I can.

i try to keep all my horses in one area. I ship the monday or tuesday before. Usually all 2yo's go on monday. But then I don't ahve as many wins, so maybe you shouldn't do what i do. lol
