LEADING first-crop sire Invincible Spirit broke the record for the most individual winners by a northern hemisphere first-season sire on Sunday when Papimaluma became his 35th winner of the year.
Azienda Agricola Valle Falcone’s homebred colt scored at the fifth time of asking by two lengths over 5f in Naples. He is one of 94 foals in Invincible Spirit’s first crop.
The record was previously held by then Florida-based End Sweep, who sired 34 winners in 1998, and Fasliyev, who equalled that total in 2003. Among Invincible Spirit’s most notable winners this season are a pair ofGroup 2 scorers in the Gimcrack winner Conquest and Captain Marvelous, who landed the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte in October, as well as the Listed winners Bahama Mama and Stevie Gee.
A Group 1-winning son of GreenDesert, Invincible Spirit stands at the Irish National Stud, where his fee for next season has been increased to €35,000.
