Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
I had a great time tonight running my races! I hope you had fun too.
One thing that I noticed when the server load was high, I needed to pause a moment or two for a race to completely load before running it.

Ronnie - kudos and thanks. I always write down all of my races in the sequence in which they show up on the result pages and slllooowwwlllyy scroll through them to drag out the anticipation. So, writing down the race ID's was but another 60 seconds of work. I quite enjoyed watching almost all of my horses run second, beaten the width of a tylenol on the screen. Thanks!

Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
Jeb was very pleased with her "approach". Before the results, she copied/pasted the RaceID for each race into a text file. Then she pasted each RaceID into SimRacer. So she avoided writing anything down.John Hannibal Smith wrote:Ronnie - kudos and thanks. I used Jeb's approach as well and it worked wonderfully. Thanks for making opening night so much fun Ronnie!! Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
Ronnie, it was great using the animator. The wins were very nice to watch but also I noticed when running it for some of the horses that I felt finished "not up to potential" that a few may very well prefer a bit of a longer or shorter distance by watching where they dropped out or where they started coming on strong. Quite an eye opener for some!

Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
Ronnie, are you open for suggestions? I don't want you to think that I don't love it as is....but one request, if easily done?
As I don't have many winners, it's hard to tell what place I finish when not first. When the winner hits the finish line, the others all stop short, and it's hard to tell who finished in what place. Maybe when the winner hits the line, their finish positions pop up on the right side, next to the line?
Again, I am NOT complaining!

Leo - if you downloaded his most recent file with the calls integrated into the viewer, at the end of the race you simlpy hit "view calls" and select finish to get the actual positions and margins.Leonard Beagle wrote:Ronnie, are you open for suggestions? Maybe you knew that already, but in case you didn't, there's already an only slightly more circuitous route to the finish...

JH, you are absolutely right. I did already know that, and I should have stated that. But, I'm being greedy, I suppose!John Hannibal Smith wrote:Leo - if you downloaded his most recent file with the calls integrated into the viewer, at the end of the race you simlpy hit "view calls" and select finish to get the actual positions and margins.Leonard Beagle wrote:Ronnie, are you open for suggestions? Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
Hey, Leo. I'm butting in to say that offering suggestions is very perfectly cool. I've been doing it all along -- off Forum. Ronnie Dee's open. But I know enough to know that some things that seem easy from the outside really require a surprising amount of effort. But then, if there is a demand (like number of people really liking some) then the effort gets more worth it.
So here's some things that I would like to see in the Sim Race Animator (SRA):
1) An option to see the description of the race. Should I be embarrassed to admit that I don't remember what's going on in each of my entries? I've been copying the race id and running it on the SRA. Looking at the Post Parade does usually nudge me into remembering what's going on, but I'd definitely like to see the race details.
2) The length of the race is shown at the end of the animation.
3) At the end of the race, the Finish Time for the race pops up on the bar of the winning horse.
4) The time it takes to see the race is proportional: now you can set the default time, but that holds for all types of races. I'd like it that the default time was for -- say 1 mile. Longer races would automatically take longer to "run" and shorter races shorter to run in real time. The base time could always be adjusted by the user.

Me too!! I know the same information is there in the calls, but with the animator, I think I have so much better ideas as to who wants to run longer or shorter (or is at the right distance, but just doesn't have it)Happy Trails wrote:Ronnie, it was great using the animator. Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
Thanks also go to Zipless II. I initially mistakenly put the finish position to the left (instead of the right) of the finish line. Luckily, Zipless II finished so far behind that I could see his "20" -- everyone else in the Derby's had their finish position obstructed by their colored rectangle.Leonard Beagle wrote:Ronnie Dee wrote:Latest Download SimRacer2.jar via http://www.mediafire.com/?ot0rffm4dmz
