Contest -- SIM Degrees of Separation
The “Six Degrees of Separation” idea says that any two people anywhere on earth can be linked through "a friend of a friend" in 6 or less steps. A popular variation is the “Kevin Bacon Game” where the starting point is any actor who then must be connected to Kevin Bacon through roles in various movies.
So what about SIM Degrees of Separation?
Two approaches seemed good: links through pedigree or, following the Kevin Bacon idea, links through races. I couldn't decide, so we'll try both:
Examples:
A) Pedigree: each link must be to sire, dam, or offspring.
Example: Hello Mudder to Done - 7 Degrees of Separation
HELLO MUDDER
1) foal - Hello Looker
2) sire – Look Up
3) sire – Satelite
4) sire – Rapid Bay
5) foal – Already in Love
6) foal – I Already Rule
7) foal - Done
DONE
B) Races: each link must be to a horse entered in the same race.
Example: Fake Stuff Hero to Kevin Bacon - 4 Degrees of Separation
FAKE STUFF HERO
1) http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=103880
Fake Stuff Hero - Eff Off
2) http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=122597
Eff Off - I See The Sun
3) http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=110816
I See the Sun - Throwing Tomatoes
4) http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=89894
Throwing Tomatoes - Kevin Bacon
KEVIN BACON
For this contest, there will be two sets of each type.
Two ways to win. (At least to start, you can only win once each way):
For each of the four sets the first person to post steps correctly linking the horses will win their choice of 1K GPs or 10K SIM$. (each person can only win once)
For each of the four sets, whoever posts the answer with the smallest degrees of separation will win their choice of 3K GPs or 30K SIM$. (each person can only win once)
Start: Be the first to post the links for a set and win your choice of 1K GPs or 10K SIM$.
Next: Whether you posted first or not, look for a shorter way to link the horses in each set and post your answer. After a week, the winners will be the answers with the smallest number of links (choice of 3K GPs or 30K SIM$).
You can only have one answer posted at a time. If you discover a shorter route, you can modify your own answer.
I'll post best answers in this main thread.

Re: Contest -- SIM Degrees of Separation
1K GPs, please! Thanks for putting this one, it's fun!
I tried doing the second type of link, but it wasn't happening for me - I think because the filly never ran in open company, and I didn't have time to dig and see if the fillies she ran against ever did.

Re: Contest -- SIM Degrees of Separation
I give up! I've been trying to link with the races, and just can't connect the horses. Seems like it should be possible, but I can't seem to get there from here. Very frustrating.
I'll leave up the original sets (in case anybody can solve them), but add two others -- same rules (they're also added to main post).
Marmaduke to The Odyssey's End (can be done with max 5 links)
Shakermaker to Kevin Bacon (can be done with max 4 links)
We'll try these for a few days. Have fun at the races!

It's fun when it works! Congrats! Don't think it's possible to beat that!Chani Ruzzo wrote:1.Marmaduke - http://www.simhorseracing.com/race.php?RaceID=115586

Looks like this contest is coming to an end:
Chani -- which is your pick of 1K GPs or 10K SIM$ for being first?
And -- Laura, Sara, and Chani, you have the best links, too -- which is your pick of 3K GPs or 30K SIM$? Great job by all!
-------------------------
I'm planning to run a new contest later this week with 10 or so sets of horses to be linked by pedigree. I'm aiming towards Thursday. Should be lots of fun!
If anyone has a set of horses they think would be interesting to try to link, send me a PM.
If anyone is interested in donating a few GP's or SIM$, donations would be gratefully accepted.
