Welcome and I recommend reading the new player's forums. If you'd like a mentor, there's a thread stickied near the top where you can sign up. Currently there's a break going on but it's perfect timing to do research in between and some reading in the forum and New Player Articles in the Feature Race section.
Also there's a really great New Player's Guide to help you get started.
Any questions, you can send a PM and/or post at the forum.
