Re: Annual Melbourne Cup Contest
Melbourne Cup is today!
The race is at 3pm, which is one hour after results time.
I'm actually going to the Cup today, so I'll probably be able to post the winner on my phone, but not straight away.
I'm tipping Americian and At First Sight, for what it's worth
Good luck to all!

Re: Annual Melbourne Cup Contest
VERY tight finish! Photo all places. I would have called it a dead heat. One of the closest photos I've ever seen.
1. Dunaden
2. Red Cadeaux
3. Lucas Cranach
I believe Modun was last...need confirmation there.

So how was it watching that finish, Peter? The thing I'll always remember about my time there is the roar of the crowd when they come down the stretch and the thunder of the hooves. Amazing stuff.

I bet that was an awesome finish to see live!
I love Quentin Bryce, I want to be her when I grow up, but she needs to fire her speechwriter.

Re: Annual Melbourne Cup Contest
Nah it's alright. Fee free to send me over a horse for 50k. I won't deduct from the prize pool either. Thought this may have ended up the first cup in memory to not have a scratching but not to beChani Ruzzo wrote:peter feel free to keep the 50k on the scratch, my gift to you for running this
Congrats to Bill for having Dunaden in the sweep!
Final Results:
1- Dunaden - Bill Outsilver ($1.65m)
2- Red Cardeaux - Eric Nalbone ($850k)
3- Lucas Cranach - Kimberley Jean ($400k)
Last - Modun - Bob Green ($100k)
The above owners can send me their horses back for the above amounts.
Modun was foaming at the mouth before the race. I assume that was a bad thing so definitely no surprise that he ran horribly.
I didn't really see too much of the acutal race from where I was...pretty much had to go by the large screen. The cheer when the race sterted was spinetingling and ditto when Dunaden's number finally went up. Got some good shots of the horses beforehand and after so maybe I'll put some up if there's anything decent.
Enjoyed myself very much...although it would have been much better if Little Surfer Girl got up
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves

Wow! Thanks for running this Peter! This was really cool. Sounds like a really exciting race. I'm going to have to find the race online and watch it.

No worries Bill...good to see someone other than Cleo win for a changeBill Outsilver wrote:Wow! Thanks for running this Peter! This was really cool. Sounds like a really exciting race. I'm going to have to find the race online and watch it.
This might be the last one...I think I'll definitely gauge whether the interest is there before committing to it next year.

Re: Annual Melbourne Cup Contest
Wow ... certainly a MOST unexpected result given the odds. I had written off my chances when I saw the horse I had drawn, and was THRILLED to see a message from Peter informing me of the results. Then I went to look up a replay of the race ... ouch! I was an inconceivably small margin away from a somewhat larger prize!
Congrats to Bill and thank you Peter!
