I must be the only one who doesn't like workouts. These numbers mean nothing to me and not using it will hurt my horse?? *grumbles*

Actually Isa.. I agree with you. I think they're fine for the yearlings, who don't race at all, but for the ones on the track, they're rather.. unneeded. After all, most horses are on an every two week-three week schedule. All that traveling time, plus the ones who don't get farm rest in an effort to save money by not shipping them to farms, plus a workout to boot, that’s to much. The horse won't have anytime to recover from their last race. That’s my humble opinion. Nice to have, adds realism to the game, but I won't be making much use of the workouts for any of my horses but my yearlings.

I tend to agree with Isa. I am liking it when used on my yearlings but as for my racers, I just don't know. I also don't mind it for horses who are coming off injuries or long layoffs to condition them but for horses I am racing every 2 to 3 weeks it is concerning as to how it will affect their performance in a race.

I gave Companion a workout on uh...Saturday or whatever day it was, even though he's racing this week. He hasn't run since Week 1 and he's up against Monaachi so it's not like it really matters anyway. :)
You're not getting a dead button...in fits of rage, John Slotman and Ara Davies and Jolene Danner would literally kill half their barns.

Apparently... you two (Becca and Isa) don't read the whole thread!!!! :P :P

Both Laura and I agree with you. I'm not going to use the workouts for anything but yearlings, untried 2yos, long layoffs, and injury come backs.

Which was kind of the whole point anyways. Em always said from the start she wasn't about to make the SIM a game where you had to log on for an hour every day to be successful ...workouts were never intended to be regular things like in real life. They're just a fun addition, an extra tool to help us keep our horses sharp. I think they rock.

I will pay serious SIM money just to find one of my horses on Sarah's list.

Imagine how I feel.

I'm having a Connie Britton-level male squee fest over Lucrezia Borgia's 7f time.

Just WAIT till a mile race comes up!!!! ;)

i actually like the workouts..i have a few horses that go 5-6 weeks off because i can't find any races for them without shipping every week. so, instead of shipping every week, i can give that horse a workout and wait for a race that suits that horse....

I think I worked both of my horses that ran last week on Thursday (Look Up over 2f dirt and Calm 7f turf). Both won, that may say more about how they are rather than any shrewdness on my part though (in fact it probably does)

Sooo after reading everyone's replies on here perhaps a different test is needed... one that compares regular racers without workouts to those to do workout in between. =]

Well, they were still in the BETA stage then... so I don't know that that really counts. :)

Workouts will be interesting. I am going to LOVE having them when it comes to racing in Dubai.

My horses are typically routers. They won't appear on any "best of" list because 7f is too short.

I don't know about that. Tears of Triumph who is also a router has had fast times both times he was worked in beta. He worked 4 furlongs in 47.96 which I think is pretty decent for a horse who is winning at 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 miles or better.
I am still not sold on workouts though although it does have its place in the game. I am sticking mainly with yearlings and horses who have more than a week or so between races as well as ones that are coming off a layoff and ones that I am trying to figure whether they want turf or dirt before I send them to the track.
