The Foaling Contest 2012!

The foaling cam is down for now. Rain is coming and I have to close the barn doors, which unfortunately makes my signal go kapooey. We're working on somehow getting a stronger connection out to the barn within the next day or so. :)

I'll work on compiling a list of the guesses so that they're easier to keep track of. And, of course, I'll update when I get in from feeding!

Cam is back up, hopefully for the whole night. :) We have our tech guys coming out tomorrow to work on the signal to see if we can't get it stronger in the barn.

Here's an update from this evening:

I tried to see if I could get any milk from Red, but no go yet.

Sorry for the lop-sided photo... I was holding a horse as well and he decided to make a dash for the alfalfa hay in our wagon whenever I let go of him for just one moment.   :nono:  It just so happened that I hit the photo to take a picture just as I was reaching to grab the lead.  Unfortunately it was the only one I was able to get before we were putting horses back into their stalls!   





I think she's going to get much larger, body-wise and bag-wise, yet. :)

No pictures tonight, but I was able to produce some milk from Red! It's clear for now, but definitely a step in the right direction!

Just giving a little update:

Red now has wax. She was very restless last night and I'm told today she was pretty restless as well. I noticed last night she didn't eat as much of her alfalfa, nor did she eat all of her feed.. so I'm definitely thinking she's getting closer! :) Right now she isn't on the cam as she's out in the pasture, but she'll be back in her stall in about an hour!

it looks like she may be having small contractions or the babies kicking her, she keeps looking back like what is going on

I'm watching the cam now and she's laying down on her side (definitely awake). Is this a sign of imminent birth, or is that just her way of staying comfortable? I know nothing about the birthing process in horses, so I don't know if that's usual or not for mares. It would be really cool to see the birth live though!
