Trotter Claiming quirks

Post by Matt Feldman »

As anyone who runs trotters knows, the division is super-competitive. Good luck ever getting a win for a "Wings" horse unless its workout times are sub- 1:55, and even the final time for maiden claiming races are usually below 154.80. As a result, you find interesting stakes/wows in claimers, especially when a horse runs out of conditions.

But I don't think I've ever seen this before in any division: A filly claimed for $15,000 in Week 7, for $25,000 in Week 11, and $32,000 in Week 15! Lee Cara then promptly retired and bred her.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she turns out to be a "Star" mare.

Then that's the second "star" from the dam.
