Who are your wows?

Post by Nena Olson »

Who are the sires that gave you wow All Weather horses this year? Here are mine!

- Hansen
- Mammoth
- Ancestral Dreams
- Quidditch

My Mammoth is out of a Magician mare and my Quidditch is out of a Smoulders mare, so I am hoping for multi surface! My Hansen is out of a Dr. Ghazi mare, so I am curious to see if this colt is a miler or a router...

My Wings/Great Gallop Sires
- Strange Mercy
- Dumbledore
- No Fooling
- Widdo x 2
- Rabbitthrutheglass
- Standout x 3
- Wise Dan
- King of Consent
- Fallen In Battle
- Dr. Ghazi
- Bad Traffic
- Smile For Em
- Ghazi's Dream
- Riddle
- Extraction
- Treasure Strike

I am quite excited by all the wings that I have! Hopefully some will do me proud and work super fast haha. The one thing that amuses me is that my Strange Mercy is his ONLY foal. Not only is he (Strange Mercy) sired by Seraph but he is out of Adjust The Level, who finished her career with a 2nd to Smile for Em in the SC Synthetic Sprint and she earned $600k on the track AND she is a daughter of Mayfield. I thought that pedigree would make people slightly interested but I guess I was the only one. Hopefully my colt does nice things :) Also I FINALLY got a wings from Courageously (dance) and it's a Wise Dan, so I have high expectations haha

From 12 foals, (four each distance category) my lone wow was a route filly filly by Yes. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Master Speller and top working now-2yo Coached Words.

Wise Dan X Magic Mountain (Magician) could be tri-surface (filly)

Widdo X Endofthedynasty(End of the Line) like this broodmare so was happy! (filly)

Ghazi's Dream X Out of the Snow (Standout) Another colt by this guy!

Happy Racing x Astro Bird (Astonishing): This was surprising as the mare wasn't good enough to race, nice lines though. (filly)

Time Turner x Briefly (Yes)....another one not out of a really good mare. (colt)

Treasure Strike X Tempus Varnum (Dr. Ghazi) (filly)

Quidditch x Medal of Valor (Commendation) might have other surface ability (filly)

I got a couple others that might possibly have AW ability but don't dominate with that. Just kind of experiments including a Trafalgar SG. As I'm always out there looking. ;) If those look nice, I'll put them on the non-AW thread.

I was pretty happy. My crop turned out to be much deeper which was what I like too, Almost every other yearling save maybe a few HTTs and a claimer were all great/winged gallopers.

I bred 8 AW foals this year only 1 was a wow or better , That one was by Dumbledore. Had already bred all my better mares before I retired Perfect Sunday but a little disappointed with his offspring so far.

Norman got two wings from Perfect Sunday out of daughters of Defend Your Rights and Goal Keeper. I'm going to tweak my strategy with him this season a bit. :)

Ronnie...good on! You did see my Happy Racing foal, did you, did you?! :P

On Happy Racing, here's Happy Dynasty who's out of that Endofthedynasty mare mentioned to give you some idea of AW prowess. 8)

To be honest Marzy I only picked up a couple of Synthetic Strength mares from AJ for Perfect Sunday for his first offspring , I will send him something better and see how he does next season.

Thank you for all your information on Happy Racing.

After your posting, I did a hypo with my Astonishing broodmare --
'Happy Racing' and 'Jawdropping'. On flat: B+ Steeplechaser: C+

My Happy Racing yearlings were 1 for 6. I sent a couple of Smoulders mares to Happy Racing and both had offspring that galloped wings (one will probably be a Dirt Router and the other a Dirt/AW Router). I sent a speed ball by Pirate to him and the yearling wowed (but almost certainly she will be a Dirt Router). I threw questionable mares by Same, Imperious, and Love As I Am at him and as expected they produced only HTT gallops.

This year I will probably send Jawdropping to Happy Racing and I am seriously considering sending Louisville Palace to him also.

I appreciate all the support from you and the AW racing community.

I got 6 stakes/wows

Rabbitthrutheglass x Angel Realm (Seraph) = Wonder Land, colt. He might be dirt though.

Dullahan x I Always Amaze (Magician) = Dazed in a Dream, filly
West x Icicles for Tears (Hail Sleet 'n Snow) = Frozen Sorrow, filly
Yes x Nobel Peace Prize (Start Of The End) = Nobel Laureate, filly
I'll Have Another x Jo Jo Dancer (Standout) = Racing Goddess, filly. Steward bred this one though
Bluegrass Stakes x Yes Ma'am (Yes) = Southern Courtesy, filly

And since I have yet to get any stakes colt routers, here are my greats/wings in that category:
Answer the Dream
Delpeni
Ensnared (x2)
Grindelwald
Happy Racing
I'll Have Another
Perfect Sunday
Yes

Lucas - I'm curious to know which stakes King of Consent you got! He only gave me claimers, I'm rather bummed.

Yes! Do that! If you need some AW mares, I can lend you some. I'm going to study him a bit more this season to see whether to go for longer or shorter route.

Your welcome and thanks for all your advice and support of La Belle Dame and her baby La Belle Magica!

I really love Happy Racing and wasn't surprised to see a wow from him. Could have some dirt as he's probably strong there in it but in my experience, Happy Dynasty b/c of her female pedigree likes that AW! 8)

I would try some more solid AW mares. He hypos well with my BTW and Hail Sleet 'n Snow mares which indicates he's definitely got that talent too. I plan to send him more!

On the AW sprinter side

Wise Dan and Rabbitthrutheglass. Both are colts and free of Seraph and Smile For Em. Which hopefully means they will develop into stallion prospects in the future.
