Thursday evening, two SIM players used the SIM Chatroom to post an inappropriate and unacceptable photo. The seriousness of this action was magnified by the fact that underage minors were present in the chatroom. The SIM welcomes players of all ages and is committed to providing a safe environment for players of all ages. The SIM management reacted quickly to shut down the chatroom to prevent further abuse and to give time to research the chat archives and consult with legal counsel. There are state and federal laws restricting the distribution of pornographic images. Anyone who initiates the distribution may be personally liable.
The SIM management has reviewed the chat logs and has identified the players that posted the images. We are still determining whether or not to reopen the chatroom. If we do reopen it, there will have to be some changes to ensure that the SIM provides a safe and pleasant environment for all our players.
The chatroom has been a source of enjoyment for most players over the years, but has also been an occasional headache for the management.
On a personal note, it sickens me to know that anyone would be rude, cruel or crude in a public forum that I provide.
