SC speed figures

Post by Patrick Noto »

Can anyone explain to me how the speed figures work in Steeple chasers. I would really like to get more involved in SC racing. Thanks, Pat

Yes most of the race winners are running 90 and above.

And there are many different levels of 100 so you might have 5 horses finish a race with the same SF.

Did i confuse you more?

No Pete. You did not confuse me but I think my confusion is...the figures that are given...are they related to only the times run by the horses in that specific race or the track record. So if it only relates to the horses running in the race, then the time only relates to the quality of the race itself.... ie a 100 SF in a claimer is not as good as a 100 in an allowance race. I hope I am explaining that correctly.

I would say that is pretty close to accurate. That goes for any breeds. In TB, a 75 sf does not translate to a 75 sf in non claimers.

Try using Thoro-Graph figs, or the sheets, or maybe Timeform.

Sorry. I don't understand what you mean. Where would I get them for SIM horses?

Just to add to what Pete has already said:

consistent SFs of 0 - 70: Don't bother racing anymore if this happens for more than 3 races in a row.
70s-80: I personally hold onto to these longer than the above category purely because they often manage a 5th or 4th place and every bit of money counts, but if they win...holy crap did all the other competitors fall or something?
80s-90: Can eventually break their maidens if you're patient enough and are useful in the way that they tend to consistently earn checks (2nd through 5th place depending on their competition) but don't often win anything after their maiden and often can't compete enough any longer to earn any type of money. Mare that is a good example of consistently earning money. Gelding that won and then couldn't do anything else.
90s-100: multi-race winner
Standing at Stud:
Dogfox Apparatus (steeplechaser & dirt mile/route)
The Jumpstart (steeplechaser)
NEW! No Traces (Shadowless x Tremendous Machine G1-winning steeplechaser)
NEW! All In Now (G1-placed and G3-winning steeplechaser by Manayunk)
