I got turf route filly Missed by Moments for a reasonable 1.5 million. She galloped wow, and I was particularly happy with her sharp 58.80 work.
One comment about wows vs scaries. I've purchased over 50 Steward-breds in my sixteen game years, and never gotten a scary. Though I suspect a few of my purchases in early years might have been scaries, had that level existed then. (When we first got gallops in Year 24. there were only three levels -- not impressed, hard to tell, and wings. So, wings horses were eagerly sought, believe it or not.)
A few years ago, I made by far my most expensive purchase, going to nearly 5 million to get the turf route colt
Reithan from the 2yo sale. He was only a wow. Bummer. But I had the mindset that he was a long-term project, which I was expecting to race at least through the age of six. He's been a decent runner, especially at age four, with some of his best races coming in losing efforts against the best of his generation. Last year, he wasn't as impressive, and I was on the verge of reluctantly retiring him. Thankfully, he had a nice win in his final start of the season, so I felt that was the go-ahead to race another year.
Now, at six, he has turned scary. That's a self-fulfilling prophesy, if there ever was one. I mean, age six is what I'd always been focused on. Plus, I guess I can no longer say that I've never gotten a scary from a SB auction. Gee, that was, like, the only whine I had left in SIM.
