OK, my race mare Fusaichi Typhoon is likely to be retired next year, maybe just a few weeks into that year, and I was wondering--

I've already picked a stallion for her and I want to know if you guys think it's a good match. First, tell me if it is or not. Second, tell me what distance the foal would appreciate. OK, here goes.

That seems to be OK, but I'm not sure if 3x3 inbreeding to Mr. P is that risky or not. I wouldn't go any closer up front with Mr. P or Slew...but it seems like a pretty good choice to me!

I'd look into bringing some Storm Cat in, say through a FWW line stud. Darkness Awaits is really nice, I like him. Same female family as Bishoujo Senshi, too.

Other options are Chinese Bandit and Saga.
Frayed - $75,000
Liveinthemoment - $25,000
Same - $10,000
It's Been Awhile - $10,000
Grindelwald - $10,000
Skywatching - $7,500

Thank you for your suggestions!

So far, Sarah, out of all those stallions you listed I like Darkness Awaits best.

Also, if you guys have the time, I need some advice for my other mares. All I need is some ideas of good basic sirelines and some examples of stallions from those sirelines. Thanks!

Can someone please help me? I suck at this bloodline thing and need some help to get me started.

(Sorry if I sound like a complete whiner, it's already been a hectic day.)

Hi Emily,

I will try and give you a start.

Evaporate : Even though i own a winning Gelding from this mare , i dont think she is a world beater in the shed. Vapor mixes best with turf , Dubawi and Special Week have both produced well with his mares.

Grand Finale : Loki Brilliance mares have done well with Ghostzapper , Herkemayah and the Fighting With Wit family. This cross brings in Stallions for all budgets Chinese Bandit , Saga , Viper , For What It's Worth , Prize Fighter ect.

Kalavor : I like Giant's Causeway or a relative here , The Scarlet Nite or perhaps Faith Justified might be ok.

Medusa's Lament : Trophy mares have bred well with Saga, Loki Dynasty and Oak Park .

Read My Lips : Not many offspring of Read The Footnote mares to go on but if you go back to Smoke Glacken the mix with Inspired Skye has done best.

I hope this has helped but i expect Laura , Eric , Sarah and others may help more !

Regards

Norman.

I will second Norman's thoughts on Kalavor, Giant's Causeway himself(if you have the game points) or one of his sons at stud, but preferably a GC that would maybe appreciate over a mile

for Evaporate I would also include storm cat or one of his sons to go along with who norman suggested

the others I am not sure on
Selati(dirt miler) $15k NY
Lani(unspecified type) $30k in NY
Lead the Crowd(turf miler) $15k NY

Without trying to speak for other people, I generally think your response would be better if you were to show people a little bit of what you were able to come up with on your own. We're more than happy to help you along in your research, but its a little different when we have to start from scratch with five mares.

Take your first mare, and look at her sire. Run a horse search and see what other kinds successful horse's he has sired. The female family on those horses will give you some ideas for what types of pedigrees to look at. Same thing with your horse's dam: what stallions has she been bred to with success in the past? These are more ideas for what types of pedigrees you ought to be looking at. If none of these yield any useful examples, go look at your horse's grandparents.

So go do a little bit of research and start digging through pedigrees: if you're new to breeding, thats going to be the most helpful way for you to learn. We'll gladly help you along, but I know that I personally am much more willing to help when I at least can see what you've been thinking or trying to do. I tend to think of the Breeding Forum as a really good place to teach people about how breeding in the SIM tends to work rather than a place where I volunteer to work for free, so... start it off and you may find a lot of people more willing to jump in and help you out.

Mike, I'll have to see if Noble Causeway fits one of my mares well.

Plus, if you want to advertse your stallion, please put it in your signature and don't go around posting that kind of post in every breeding thread.

Thanks Eric. That's a bit what I'm doing right now, except I only look at the sire side of it. That's really good info.

I figured you were doing some sort of research, but given that you're probably doing it anyway, its just always nice to see what you're thinking! If nothing else, it just makes sure that all the potential advisors that look at your post know that you're making an effort on your own, not just asking other people to do the work for you!

It's also much easier to help you refine our suggestions when we know what your thoughts are on the horse. You'll be the one training it, so it helps to have some basic grounding in what you think you're dealing with. If you're way off base, we'll tell you, but it always helps to know whether someone things their mare is a dirt mare, turf mare; sprinter, miler, router; claimer, allowance, stakes horse, etc. If you're looking for a stakes-quality type, I'm going to recommend vastly different stallions than if you're looking for a lower level horse, etc.

So... to borrow a line from Tom Cruise, possibly before he went insane: "Help me help you."

OK, here's what I got:

<a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=15896' target='_blank'>Evaporate</a> x <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=18413' target='_blank'>Dance In The Dark</a>
I'm looking for a turf miler here, maybe going longer.

<a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=14669' target='_blank'>Grand Finale</a> x <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=12686' target='_blank'>Herkemayah</a>
I'm looking for some dirt routing possiblities.

<a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=11419' target='_blank'>Kalavor</a> x <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=27293' target='_blank'>Noble Causeway</a>
An mostly underappreciated sire, though I like the Giant's Causeway bloodline. I almost went for Footstepsinthesand. I think this foal might end up being a good turf router.

<a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=13144' target='_blank'>Medusa's Lament</a> x <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=9204' target='_blank'>Loki Dynasty</a>
Hopefully a nice dirt router.

<a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=21302' target='_blank'>Read My Lips</a> x <a href='http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=17323' target='_blank'>Trailblazer</a>
I think this one will be a good dirt router as well.

Well, what do you guys think?

I like the Dance In The Dark/Sunday Silence cross in principle for Evaporate, but Vapor was a sprinter himself who tended to sire other sprinters, so Dance In The Dark might sire a little too much stamina to match up well here. If I were you, I'd be looking for a turf sprinter, and since there is no Storm Cat in the pedigree, you can find proven turf sprint commodities in A Bus, Shamardal, Aragorn, First Samurai, Black Minnaloushe, Footstepsinthesand, etc. Some other possibilities might include Guitar and Boot Legger, two of the better turf sprinters in a while, as well as Adjust The Lens. Any of those oughta sire a speedy turf sprinter from this mare.

I like the Herkemayah x Grand Finale cross. It brings in Sunday Silence and Silver Charm, so it works out nicely. If you need other ideas, anything carrying Gentleman that ran on dirt works well, and more specifically, anything carrying Sports Jersey sets up some cool inbreeding to Jersey Girl.

Kalavor's sire Kalanisi is a tough one, but Giant's Causeway is at least a good place to start. I'd prefer to see her going to a horse whose a little more likely to sire long turf and maybe has a little more potential than Noble Causeway (Sale Topper and Acapulco come to mind), so make of that what you will. If you can find a way to get some turf-oriented Gentleman blood into this pedigree, perhaps through Chart or Atlas, that'd also be real interesting.

Pedigree wise, there's nothing wrong with Loki Dynasty x Medusa's Lament, but monetarily... there's no way this mare throws a horse who makes you back $150k. You can find cheaper alternatives with a horse like Majesty or Kingdom (full disclosure: I own Kingdom). You'd at least have a chance of making back your stud fee investment and then turning a profit. You need the horse to be more talented to the tune of a $130,000 earnings differential to make it a better idea to breed to Loki Dynasty than Majesty, and I'm frankly not sure you can pull that off with this mare.

Read My Lips... No New Taxes. Political jokes aside, this mare's pedigree is so odd that I can't really give you much helpful advice. Read The Footnotes/Graduation Year/Menifee/Southern Halo. That looks like some sort of randomly generated pedigree where names were pulled out of a hat at random, so Trailblazer is as good a choice as any for her. He's well bred and was a good racehorse, so if you like him, this is a good place to give him a go.
