I have a band of 5 broodmares. Four of them have produced foals so far, but none of them have done anything stellar. I have a feeling of why that is (it's not the stallions' fault, except maybe a couple times). I was looking for a little help/advice on where to send them at year's end.

The only winnner in my band. She is newly retired, and will be bred to a truf miler. I have a short list, and I wanted to get opinions on who may work best. I have a list of four younger porspects: Monaachi, Seer, Duc de Berry, and Angels Help Angels. Are there any older stallions that I have overlooked? They need to be free of Storm Cat blood. I like Seer's pedigree, Monaachi's race record, Angels Help Angel's hot start, and Duc's combination of all three. And I haven't even looked at older stallions!

Dam of Gato Classico. I am thinking maybe something that is a grandson of Storm Cat, much like Lion Heart was to produce Gato Classico. Aragorn intrigues me. He brings in Rahy, Mr.P, and Northern Dancer, and he seems to be doing fairly well. Another horse I kind of like is Jump Start, but his pedigree appears to leans towards dirt foals. I also like Palpitations and his sire War Chant.

I would like to bring in one or more of the major "old" dirt lines with her: Silver Charm, Battle Cry, or Gentleman. One horse that I see is Onetogivemhope, but he is unproven at stud. Another option that brings in Gentlemen is Chesapeake Bay, who brings in another line of Slew via Surfside. Then there are horses from the Symbol line that I think could work well.

She is one I might try to bring in some Battle Cry with. Gun Hill and Canute stad out as options to bring Battle Cry in as a grandsire (to the foal).I like Gun Hill, and I would be willing to take a risk on him as a young sire.

I think this filly is nicely bred. I would want something Silver Charm free. I think something that goes well with Silver Charm and either Sunday Silence or Priceless Forever will work well with her. I am thinking a dirt miler will be perfect.

Thanks for reading my novel. I just wanted to share my opinions and ideas so others could know where I am coming from.

Gato Classico
You listed a lot of good options, and really you could choose from any of them. I myself am not breeding to Seer until I see his foals race, because his pedigree is just a little too unfamiliar and uncertain for me.

Other options, with low stud fees, that I like with your mare include: Shining (Star Studded x Tickle) for 7k, and Opening Night (Future Hero x Up in Lights, by Star Studded) for 15k. Opening Night brings in some inbreeding, the foal would be 4x4x5 to Storm Cat (I actually like that) and 4x4 to Charismatic (which I also like). Came Home (Gone West x Nice Assay, by Clever Trick) is also an option, and he stands for just 5k. He brings in Gone West, and I simply love crossing Gone West and Storm Cat. In fact, he has multiple winners and even two stakes winner, Noplacelikehome and Rise to the Test, who are out of Storm Cat mares.

I definitely agree with you about picking a Storm Cat son or grandson. Of all the Storm Cat sons in the game, I think I like Black Minnaloushe (Storm Cat x Coral Dance, by Green Dancer) the best with your mare. He hasn't exactly set the racing world on fire, but he has sired a handful of good milers. And if I owned this mare I'd be looking to breed her to a miler.

Your suggestion of Aragorn would be okay, and he would add more stamina... but his stud fee is incredibly high and I'm not sure that you should spend that much on this mare. My own stallion First Samurai (Giant's Causeway x Freddie Frisson, by Dixieland Band) is 35k and has had a lot of success producing milers. Shamardal (Giant's Causeway x Helsinki, by Machiavellian) is another good option and he is just 25k.

I was just breeding a Fu Peg mare of my own today, and I noticed a lot of nice horses who had Fu Peg x Seattle Slew crossed.

One of your suggestion was Onetogivemhope, who strikes me much more as a dirt miler- and I think your mare is more router. Good cheap dirt router sires are hard to find. However, to go off of your Chesapeake Bay suggestion, his son Standard stands for just 10k and already has TWO winners out of a Fusaichi Pegasus mare. And, Standard brings in Slew blood too. So I really like him with your mare.

I do like Gun Hill, but his fee would be more than I would spend on this mare. I'm not saying you can't earn it back eventually with the foal... but it might just be as a claimer.

Your mare's third dam is the dam of Gotham City, so I'd be interested in adding in some Priceless Forever blood. It's hard to do that without inbreeding to Symbol (generally not a good idea), but some options would be Righteous (Gaze Unwavering x Loki Paradise, by Priceless Forever) who stands for 15k and Standard (Chessie x Statgal, by Priceless Forever) who stands for 10k.

My first thought when I saw her pedigree was: Guardian. He is a dirt miler, and he stands for just $500. Plus, he brings in Danzig to cross with your mare's Loki Brilliance line (though it is far back in her), which is the same cross that produced top dirt miler Left Behind. That said, I probably like Yume Senshi (Storm A Fortress x Okibi Senshi, by Loki Flame) even more with your mare because of his very nice pedigree, and he stands for 10k.

I like to look for stallions that offer me the most for my money, so that's what I've tried to do here for you as well. These are just a few ideas you might consider, but I'm sure other people will have something else to add! I hope that helped a little! :)

I'm quite flattered you'd consider Seer for Gato Classico. Yes, he's unproven as far as being a sire goes, but he sure was a nice horse to race. He's a full sister to Melhor Ainda, the real life freak mare that Bobby Frankel trained...

As far as the stud fee goes, I'm dropping it to 2k until the end of the year in an effort to attract some end of the year breeders.

Good luck on your choice.
