What does "grade" mean? I looked around to try to figure it out but still not sure.

Grades refer to the general prestige and quality of the race. G1 races are traditionally the most lucrative, but at the same time the hardest to win and most prestigious. G2 races are next, followed by G3, ungraded stakes, allowances/clamers, maidens/maiden claimers.
