Dream Bigger
At the end of the Year 47 Triple Crown Trail coverage, Kris Bobby gifted me a yearling stakes-galloping dirt miler named Dream Bigger, which she had purchased in a Steward auction for just under $1.9 million. It was an incredible gift that has only gotten better over the last year-plus of SIM game time, and an amazing example of SIM generosity.
Tonight, Dream Bigger earned me my first career Grade 1 title, taking the Long Island Futurity to improve to 4-for-4 lifetime. He hasn’t really been challenged yet (in part because I ducked a bit of what would have been a test in Toronto in Week 9), but that will change in the Steward’s Cup Futurity when he becomes my first runner in an SC race. I imagine I am going to be a bundle of nerves in three weeks!

Re: Dream Bigger
Dream Bigger is a Steward's Cup champion! He held off Make Your Mark (who ran a great race, kudos to him) by a nose with a career-best 90! I am STOKED!

Re: Dream Bigger
My guy is now 6-for-6 with a Grade 3 victory tonight against pretty much no one. On to Kentucky for another G3 in Week 4, then the Derby Mile two weeks later.
Have to say that this race got my attention. Add that winner next to Fidelissimus and Make Your Mark as horses I'm concerned about!

And of course Gonzo is entered in Dream Bigger's next race. Sweating!Dan Kauffman wrote: ↑6 years ago Have to say that this race got my attention. Add that winner next to Fidelissimus and Make Your Mark as horses I'm concerned about!
(I will go ahead and say right now that if I scratch Dream Bigger, it will be because he's not vetting fully rested by the Thursday before the race, not because I'm ducking Gonzo.)

Re: Dream Bigger
Gonzo decisively beat my guy, handing him his first loss in seven starts. My guy ran just fine (IMO), just got beat by a better horse.
He might be a touch fatigued and running him back in two weeks for the Derby Mile doesn't excite me, but as long as he vets fully rested in time, that's what I will be doing. I knew fatigue was a risk when I planned this 16-2-4-6 schedule. You makes your choices and you lives with the results.

Re: Dream Bigger
So, in hindsight, racing a "somewhat unsound" horse eight times from Week 7 Monday of Year 48 through Week 6 Friday of Year 49 may not have been such a good idea. Now I'm solidly into half-panic mode with my guy, who was not very good last out despite having a much-needed three-week breather. Maybe he needed four. Maybe I killed him by being an idiot. Maybe he just wanted to be 2. Whatever the case, just know I blame myself.

the 1st and 2nd place finisher in the race are both very good. Nothing to be ashamed about.Dan Kauffman wrote: ↑6 years ago So, in hindsight, racing a "somewhat unsound" horse eight times from Week 7 Monday of Year 48 through Week 6 Friday of Year 49 may not have been such a good idea. Your horse is also 3 and racing with older. A semi disadvantage, but at this late in the season it should not affect him too much.
I bet he rebounds next out =)

Re: Dream Bigger
Dream Bigger ends his career with a G1 victory in the Brooklyn Mile, surpassing the $1 million mark in earnings. I will write up a super-spectacular breeding forum post in the near future.
Once again, can't thank Kris Bobby enough for this gift.
