Help me name my yearling

Post by Gigi Gofaster »

I have this filly:

http://washingtonthoroughbred.com/2017- ... ria-cross/

And the clock is ticking on getting her named. Right now we all her Poppy and we will always call her that at home. However, I’d like to know what you think of our proposed names and if you have other ideas!

And no, she won’t race, she’s going to do future event horse. She’s cheeky, she’s big, she loves to rear, help you do her paddock, and steal your phone. She’s adorable. Best baby ever.

I’m guessing it’s taken but Cherokee Nation is my top suggestion. I always like using the names in the pedigree.

She’s lovely Gigi! She looks like she’s got more growing to do, but how tall is she?

Is "For Valour" taken? I'd suggest that.

hah, that's not taken and we did talk about that one. But when I showed it to people they kept saying 'For Velour? Like the fabric?' This is America, after all...those pesky 'u's really throw us, but 'For Valor' stayed in the mix for a while and is still a possibility, and is also available...

If I knew how to post pics to the forum I'd post a more recent one (that was her sale photo form last August), She's chunky now, with a big jughead. I'd guess she's 15.1, as she's about the same size as my daughter's horse, and she's butt-high at the moment. Her knees are wide open still too, so there is certainly more to come. Of course, if I stick her now I'd have to take an inch off for her woolly winter coat too. She prepared to cross the tundra with all that hair.

Cherokee Flower or Cherokee Blossom, call name "Poppy" (if not taken). Prairie Flower. That's all I can think of right now to tie into Poppy

I know it's not the exact name of the character, but this made me want to watch Where The Heart Is again. I don't care if it's a chick flick, that's a great movie.

On Memorial Day and Veterans Day here in the States - to raise money and show support of for vets we sell paper poppies. So I thought of the name...

Paper Poppy
or...
A Paper Poppy

I thought it tied in the sire and dam's names, along with the name you are using. I think too, that other countries sell those little poppies for the same reason.
