I don't think size matters too much in the sim, at least I haven't noticed if it has

northern dancer in real life was considered small at 15. something hands some say 2 some say 4

smallest I seen in sim is 15 have seen a few but not many over 17, I got a 17 hander from two parents not much over 15 hands

No, a horse's size is not important at all in the SIM. It is just another detail to make the horse more real. :)

I'm pretty sure when horse size first became public knowledge that 1) size doesn't determine anything (anymore) and 2) the smallest any horse will be is 15 hh because in real life people often smudge records if a thoroughbred is below that.

In the old sim, it used to be that usually the horses on the smaller end of things were sprinters, while the taller ones were routers, but now that's a thing of the past. So size doesn't really matter anymore.
