I dont contribute much to the forum because I dont usually have much time to read it all with the thoroughness it deserves although this did catch my eye. I think newbies get too much full stop. Free gifts, free horses, cheap races etc etc. What does this all lead to? Ungrateful people who want something for nothing ALL the time.

What has really really annoyed me is the attitude of some new players in particular, they have seen the opportunity for some easy money by buying horses off the New Players page and selling them on for vastly inflated prices. I have in teh past tried to always sell on my stock on this page to help out but not now. From now on all my stock goes on the main board for its true worth.

Perhaps its just me but on other games I play, this is the new attitude of most new players. THey beg plead and borrow for help then when they get it are ungrateful rude and downright nasty in some cases. I am not saying that ALL new players are like this but the minority are spoiling it for the majority.

So from now on I will treat newbies the way i treat my son - you have to work for anything you want, nothing is free in this life. Dont ask me for help, money or special treatment unless you are genuine about the reasons why you play this game. Sorry if this attitude upsets others less forthright than myself but the longer you let a spoilt child demand and win, the more that child will want.

Rant over!

Amanda, you certainly have the right to treat new players however you want. But if we're talking about how the 'game' treats them, I think it goes back to what Eric said earlier. Frankly, the people the 'game' needs to be most concerned about are game point buyers, and potential game point buyers. I started playing in July. I'm now a game point buyer, and will continue as much as I can. What attracted me to buying game points was the stud book. The stud book would not have been interesting at all to me if I didn't have a group of mares worth breeding coming up in the next few seasons. I couldn't have acquired those mares if not for the new player sales page, and other help I received as a new player. So helping this new player in particular has directly led to dollars for the SIM.

Regarding the 'pinhooking' concept, I'm not sure why it's so irritating to some people. If you're putting a 100k horse on the new player sales page for 10k to help some new player out, why would you be offended if they can re-sell it for 100k? It's more help to a lot of new players to have 10 10k horses than to have one 100k horse. What's more irritating to me is seeing people (new players and non-new players) put horses up on the sales pages for ridiculous prices, hoping some naive person will come along and buy it.

I'm not singling you out, Amanda, and I agree rudeness and ungratefulness hurt the gaming experience. But in general, what you reap is what you sow. If someone is rude to me, I simply won't deal with them, and I'm going to leave it at that. It's not going to deter me from trying to help new players out when I can.

As to the pinhooking - that has been and always will be here. It doesn't always happen on the sales page. One of the new players and I did some exchanges in broodmare and racehorses recently - I got a Dynaformer broodmare and a decent looking 3yo filly that he got for 1K each, and he received 2 dirt sprinter broodmares and a 2yo (now 3yo) dirt running gelding. He likes dirt sprinters, I like turf routers - so we're all happy.

I had done similar things as a new player with Daryl and others.

Selling a horse that was given to you is in poor taste, unless you check with the person who gave it to you. Some don't care - Laura F will normally say "keep it, sell it, breed it - whatever, it's now yours." A lot of other trainers don't feel that way. But, when something goes on the sales page or at auction, it's purchased, therefore, imho, all prior rights to that horse goes with the sale. If the purchaser wants to sell it for more to keep their stable afloat or to buy a horse of a different racing style, that's their right.
I'm just here for the fun of it

The new players page is there to help new players out - if they pay 10k for a horse worth 70k they should be grateful they got it so cheap and not abuse someone else's generosity.

Eric - I dont mean that every new player is the same but that the minority will spoil it for the majority.

And I totally agree that when you sell a horse its no longer your concern but thats not the point I am trying to make. I wont belabour the point but if i sell a horse for $10,000 to a new player because I do want to help genuine players then find it listed for sale at $20,000 as soon as they can without it running any races (and then finding out that the same players has over 20 horses and every single one is up for sale?!)

Sorry its just a point that really annoys me - i like to help out where i can (and i have sold a horse at much reduced price to a new player and they were most kind in their thanks and i would sell to them again) but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth.

yeah but I feel people should play there own game. The nicer people will put great horses for cheep to help newbies but they should also expect newbies dont take it as helping when they purchase the horse especailly when there is all kinds of 1k horses on there. Most newbies just dont know. Like me I feel like I learn something on sim everyday. When I started I felt like if I bought a horse a could do whatever I want and If i was given a horse I feel the same way. Now I feel like i shouldnt sell the given ones but i still feel like if someone sells me a horse worth 100k for 10k I can sell it.

I agree. I feel that if I sell a horse for a low price to a newer player they should at least give the horse a chance in race before selling that horse. It annoys me most when the horse has very good lines and I could have sold that horse for more.

It really annoys me when people sell horses I give them after giving them specific details to please contact me back if they no longer want the horse. In some cases I don't mind them being sold but it they are definitely really nice horses that I think the new player would do well with that bothers me.

And also I don't help those who beg and plead for help.

Mike you really should try and work a little better on your grammer, because I feel like I have to decipher your message to understand what you're saying. My grammer may not be perfect but I do try to be understood clearly.

I already told Mike he needs to work on his grammar. Even though he's young, he is only three years away from writing college essays (actually, probably a year and a half or so), and I told him this. But maybe since apparently I'm not the only one having trouble deciphering his posts, he'll work on it. :)

Mike if you are serious about going to college and don't mind pointers..this is the time to work on it.

As a college professor I have to be honest, I stop reading any paper that confuses know with no, or mispells cheap. ( I give it an "F" )

The irony is my tping is so bad that I often look like an utter moron with all my typos, therefore I correct everything by hand at the college level.

As much as I may have given you a hard time , knowing and using the english language will pay off in huge dividends down the road.

Was the typo ("tping") intentional? If so, I caught it and I am amused by it.
