My mother wore bloomers, you could not hang them out on a windy day lol

If improving means to go from "late bloomer" or "progress" to "peak reached", yearlings rarely improve.
Mostly 2 year olds and 3 year olds can improve after the races at W8D6.

Of course any horse can improve randomly at any time but that is not this "scheduled improvement"

My question is: Do some horses improve when they turn 2 years old or does the scheduled improvement start at 2½?

Any horse can improve at any point after turning 1. So yearlings can also improve today (though most don't, yearlings tend to be a rarer jump but certainly not unheard of).

Sorry, I might have been wrong in my original answer. I edited that.
When it comes to my own stable, yearlings have never improved (as in going from late bloomer to peak reached), but it seems it happens occasionally.

I suppose if yearlings can be 'at peak' from their first gallop then it's possible for them to improve to at peak during week 9. Yea I can't personally remember having a yearling improve but I'm almost 100% certain I've seen examples from others.

As for the peak comments, we still don't really know what they mean. I have seen at peak horses improve too so it's not out of the question

My experience is Yearlings Rarely improve. Many do improve at 2 and more at 2 1/2. But the big changes seem to happen at 3 and 3 1/2

This one was disappointing, and I doubt he will improve, but I will keep crossing my fingers.

The Twelfth of Never

Right now, he's a solid.
I was sure hoping the Reddington and with the 'Foremost' line of mares on bottom would have produced at least a stakes quality. I was pretty disappointed when he galloped allowance then dropped down to a solid in his last gallop and he's been showing 'about at peak since he was a yearling ***sigh***

This filly, too, I would love to see improve:
Forbidden

She's an allowance that should progress. Her family tree doesn't branch a whole lot, as she has the Foremost line on top and on bottom. Her dam, Fortitude, foaled Roughian, Mal, Willfulness, and Get Off My Cloud all who have had nice success on the track.

I assume after 4pm et the changes happen? Does anyone have a 4yo or older that is a late bloomer? And finally if anyone knows are these extra gallop comments revealing something that was always in the game or was the game changed itself so horses could change over time more than before?

Bubblewrap King-claimer out of blue hen, only way is up I hope 😩
Dance Hall-productive out of another blue hen
Sweet Serenade-if this solid doesn’t improve I might quit 😭
Good Boi-late blooming productive still, there’s hope right?? 😬
Let's review:
Bubblewrap King-IMPROVED! Oh no wait, he went from claimer to solid and at peak.
Dance Hall-still a productive late bloomer
Sweet Serenade-still a solid late bloomer
Good Boi-still a frickin' productive late bloomer and he's half way through his 3yo season

I also had one go from claimer late bloomer to claimer at peak lol
